rIDE 2.0

Post by wilstrand » Mon Oct 14, 2013 3:31 am

With version 2.0 rIDE leaves the playground and enters the route to be an
independent and high performance IDE for LiveCode.

The searching, filtering and navigating routines has been undergoing
optimizations to further increase speed and responsiveness.

Dependencies have been reduced as rIDE now carries its own main Menu
and Property Inspector.

You bring up the new Property Inspector by double clicking a node in the
Browser Tree. At the top of both the Tree and Inspector are combo boxes
where you can either select predefined filter categories or type in your
own search phrases. In other words you can now inspect, edit, search and
filter the properties directly in the new Inspector.

The Browser Tree now allows you to view files and folders from your local
drives. Right click the Favorites node and select from the context menu.
From here you will be able to do things like drag and drop image files
directly onto your stacks without leaving the IDE.

Enjoy this rIDE!

Hi Mats,

Great work !!!

I have one question, I am still using v1.6
In this version you have an eye icon (which hides/unhides objects) and
next to that you have an individual browse tool.

These two features I love & use quite a lot and was wondering if you
were going to add these in the current version 2.

Hi Jeffe!

Thanks for kind words and for using rIDE!

I highly appreciate getting feature ideas and suggestions like yours! it is what is needed to continue
to improve rIDE!

In rIDE 1 the visible and cantSelect icons where displayed for each node in the Browser Tree.
That occupied a lot of valuable screen estate and I thought also made a somewhat cluttered impression.

I have now implemented a new solution for easy access to toggle visible and cantSelect. In version 2
there is a Bottom Command Bar where the visible and cantSelect icons now are placed. This also has
the advantage that you now can toggle visible and cantSelect on multiple controls in one operation.

You can try it by downloading the new version 2.1.0 from: http://tapirsoft.on-rev.com/rIDE/

Also as a new feature, invisible and non-selectable controls are now included in the predefined
filter categories accessible from the Combo Box at the top of the Browser Tree.

Please give me your thoughts on this new implementation of these features!

Best regards,

Mats

Hi Mats,

Once again, I'm loving your IDE more & more.
2.1 is totally awesome.

This is my opinion but I want to let you know my thoughts...
As with the Script icon being on the same line as the objects.... (Fields, buttons, groups)
One click and I can edit the script.

I still liked the eye icon (hide&Unhide) objects & the browser tool also on the same line
as the fields, buttons & groups. Especially the tool feature, because you have two different icon
for browser and pointer tools. Visually it made a big difference when working with large projects.
I would even like to see a lock & Unlock icon also next to these items.

SCREEN REALESTATE !!!
Well there is nothing on the right side part from script icon so for me it was all about speed & convenience.
Now I have to select field, go down the screen, select browser/pointer go back up then go back down then back up.

Sorry, but I still like the layout in version 1.6
Unfortunately, there is bug in that build which is doing my head in.

I have now upgraded to the 2.1 - But I am hoping you will be changing the icons back to where they were.

Those who are NOT using this IDE - GET IT NOW !!! TOTALLY AWSOME !!!

Mats,

I managed to fix the bug in v1.6.0
So now I'm pulling my hair, trying to continue using 2.1
when I still find 1.6 quicker & more convenient to use.

Hi Jeffe!

I do not want to be responsible for you losing your hair! So I have added the ability
to toggle visible and cantSelect icons of nodes as you are used to from rIDE 1.6.
The features can be set from rIDE preferences where you now have two new
check boxes, Visible and Selectable under the label "Show as Node Icons".

Download new rIDE.v.2.2.0 from http://tapirsoft.on-rev.com/rIDE/

Best regards
Mats

Hi Wilstrand,

Loving your rIDE2.0 - can't stop using.
I'm not sure if you are interested, but I found as I am using your IDE I need a copy and paste feature.
I'm constantly needing to click on object then goto the livecode IDE select copy.

Is it possible to please add in the right click feature

Thanks jeffe

Hi Mats,

I'm addicted to your IDE - It has made my life in the programming work a hell of a lot easier.
I have a couple of feature requests, I hope I'm being helpful and not a pain...

A) right click copy & paste objects
B) Global Variables for stack in use only

Keep up the great work, also I have not noticed any bugs yet. So 2.0 is a killer - Well done !!!

Hi Jeffe!

Sorry for the delay in responding here! But now I have just uploaded version 2.3.0.
I have implemented your request for right click cut, copy & paste objects.
You can download the new version from - http://tapirsoft.on-rev.com/ride/

New features:
Increased performance.
Cut, copy & paste.
Bottom bar with frequently used features.

I have not got to your other request, Global Variables for stack in use only.
Could you please elaborate a little on that? Maybe you could describe the use case
where you would use that feature?

With my best regards,

Mats

Hi Mats,

Oh wow - IDE just gets better and better !!!

Love the cut, copy & paste feature, your killing me - I'm addicted.
and the bottom bar is just awesome.

I have found a bug, please be aware that when using the "Hide revMenuBar" inside your IDE
If I close the IDE by pressing the "X" in the top right hand corner, it closes your IDE but does NOT close
livecode and in order to close it you must press control Alt delete and shut it down from the task manager.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The final feature request is...
Display global variable for stack in use only (If possible)

This is more for debugging scripts, sometimes its good to know what a
global value is at a current moment.

I mean to show only global value of the stack in use, So if I have a stack open called
"myWeatherWatcher" and I have 3 global values...
Eg: gWeather, gDate, gcountry

Display only the value of those variables...

gWeather = 20
gDate = 12/11/2013
gCountry = Australia

So What I would like to see in your settings is...

global stack variable or an option for "ALL" or "STACK"

Hi Mats,

Copy & Pasting groups has an issue.

If I copy a group and paste it onto the card in your IDE - it works fine.
If I copy a group and paste it into another group in your IDE - nothing happens.

Please check it out...
