Installation Path

Post by nkrontir » Wed Apr 12, 2006 3:59 am

Revolution studio's installation procedure has changed a bit. Unfortunately, the path where the application is to be installed has to end in "Revolution Studio", even in custom install. This is not ideal to upgrading users since I suppose there are a few of us who have installed in other places (me for instance have my Revolution executable in "C:\Program Files\Revolution\program"). Since this makes for a doubtful upgrade, can this be fixed, even if it means just downloading the .exe instead of the whole installer?

Thanks.

In order to support the new update architecture that is present in Revolution 2.7 and above it was necessary to significantly overhaul the existing distribution structure.

Indeed, the 'Revolution Studio' folder is an umbrella folder which can contain any number of Revolution versions - all managed by the updater.

After installation you are free to move and rename this folder and this should not affect the ability to update versions at a later date. You can also move and rename any of the version subfolders (such as 2.7.0-gm-1) - however this will mean updating will not work.

Although not visible in 2.7, 2.7.1 will have a little wrapper program at the top-level of the 'Revolution Studio' folder (or whatever you have renamed it to) that will dispatch to the version of Revolution you have chosen to be currently active.

Warmest Regards,

Mark.
