Android Wear OS compatibility

Post by adxsoft » Sat Nov 09, 2019 5:41 am

I just bought my first android smartwatch, the ticWatch E, which runs Wear OS 2.0.

I was surprised when Livecode 9.5.1 rc1 Build 15504 recognised the smartwatch and listed it in the Development Test Target Menu.

So I created the attached simple stack which sets the Android Standalone Application Settings to

- Android 8.0 (Oreo)
- Android armV7

Also I set the stack size to fit within the smartwatch 400x400 screen

I the ran Test in the development menu and the app was deployed to the smartwatch. So far so good.

The Livecode app showed in the list of apps however when I ran it on the smartwatch it just flashed a purple screen and then stopped.

I'm probably being over optimistic that LC will create an Android Wear OS smartwatch app however at this stage LC certainly has the capability to

- recognise an Android Wear OS 2.0 device
- deploy an apk to the smartwatch device

All we need now is the ability for the apk to execute

Are there any plans to support Wear OS in the future?

Thanks
Allan
