WAV files too big

I am using WAV sound files set at 44100Hz, 16-bit, Stereo, uncompressed
This works but the space consumption is HUGE at almost 1Mb for some sounds.
I need to utilize around 200 WAV files.
Any contribution would be helpful. Thanks.

Use any Android supported compressed sound file format like MP3!
Uncompressed audio is ALWAYS that big (172KB/second).
