Running LC Windows 64-bit on MacOS 14

Caveat: This concerns running the LC 9.6.3 Community Windows 64-bit version: your mileage may differ.


So:

1. WINE screws up on MacOS 14 betas 1 & 2: it installs on beta 3.

2. Select the 'All Users' option when installing LC.

3. The IDE will NOT accept key commands: it's all mouse and menu, happy people.

4. To QUIT LC running in WINE you have to use the Force Quit menu item in the Apple Menu.

5. Kinky types who might want to install earlier versions of LiveCode will NOT manage that with any of the 32-bit versions [such as 7.1.4].

6. Once the thing has been installed, to run it you will have to click on this:

/Users/yourAccount/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Run Rev/LiveCome Community/LiveCode Community.exe

which as it is a "right bother" can be made easier by dragging the LiveCode Community.exe thing to the Dock and ALSO making sure it is set to be opened by WINE every time.

Just to make things "extra jazzy" the LiveCode Community.exe icon will NOT 'sit' among the other App icons, but has to be parked along with the folders next to the trash icon:

As has been pointed out 'elsewhere':
Well SOME of it will work, it won't be accessing any macOS native APIs running it inside a WINE wrapper.
And that, of course, depends an awful lot on what you are trying to do with LiveCode.

A Macintosh standalone authored on MacOS 13 [Ventura] works perfectly well on MacOS 14.

Sorry, forgot about the technical background of this, but maybe this will also work with runtimes created under WINE?
At least worth a try...

If I remember correctly the trick is to ZIP the resulting Mac runtime on Windows, and then unZIP it on the Mac.
That is certainly worth a try: presumably I'll have to install a Windows zip exe in WINE to do that . . .

Bloody Microsoft: every time I try to download WinZip it gives me a Mac version.

7-zip won't load in WINE.

PeaZIP got stuck.

ZipGenius got stuck.

B1 Free Archiver appeals best to my sense of humour, but not in any other way:

I’m sure you’ve checked but just in case: are you building a 32 or 64 bit MacOS executable?
Just asking in case the Windows version of LC is defaulting to 32 bit…
