Because it allowed users to learn LiveCode without the ability to deploy the end result as a standalone application.
This is a model LiveCode might like to reconsider in the light of recent events.
An idea to consider might be a version without Widgets.

I'll give the Linux version "a whirl" on Xubuntu 21.10, although suspect it won't cut the mustard on
a 64 bit machine.
No access to a 32 bit Linux box for about another 10 days as in quarantine with post-vax Covid.
Will also have a go with the Windows version via WINE.

Also runs perfectly well on MacOS 10.7.5
