A funny thing happened on the way to the forum

Post by richmond62 » Tue Mar 09, 2021 8:52 am

I thought I'd check out my license entitlements, and discovered that I am entitled to:

The LiveCode 8 App Building Course . . .

So, I started downloading the LiveCodeCommunityInstaller-7_0_6-Mac as I was told to . . .

and got something that was 100% useless for my Macintosh:

I couldn't help wondering why the download should contain LC 7.0.6 for something called "LiveCode 8 App Building Course."

Then I started thinking a bit more and wondered why, when LC is at version 9.6.1

LiveCode is still trotting out something called "LiveCode 8 App Building Course" that has as a prerequisite LC 7.0.6 that
as it is a 32-bit app won't cut the mustard on my 2018 Mac Mini . . .

Downhill all the way . . .

And so, when I popped over to the TextWrangler download place I read this:

"TextWrangler is now BBEdit — and still free! It's time to switch.

TextWrangler was an all-purpose text and code editor for macOS, based on the same award-winning technology and user interface as BBEdit, our leading professional HTML and text editor."

[Actually that's totally disingenuous as I have had BBEdit installed on my mac systems for a long, long time.]

Thanks.

You have restored a lot of my faith in . . . 8)

How about changing "LiveCode 8 App Building Course" to "LiveCode App Building Course"
as a modicum of protection?

It was initially named this way to differentiate it from the pre-8 LiveCode App Building Course but I think it is probably safe to rename it. I'll run it past the team and see what they say.

Well, that probably made sense at the time.

Now, I have a feeling that people might feel, what with LC 9.6.1 and "being on the cusp of" LC 10,
it might give the impression it has little value, when it has a lot of value, and should do for a long
time to come.
