Let the desktop be the desktop, let the web be the web.
One could, just as easily say, "Let the desktop be the desktop, let the handheld be the handheld."

One could, and also that each OS be each OS, each app be each app, and so on.

But I believe the differences beteeen native apps on different screen sizes are in many ways less significant than the differences beteeen writing an application for an OS and writing a page for a browser application.

Consider layout as just one corner of that, OS absolute coordinates vs the browser's reflow. Think about that one aspect for a few days...

LOL
Panos just added four new generic Android entries to the list:
412x775
600x1024
720x1280
1280x720

That's useful because I don't know how to resize a stack.

LC posted a blog.

I find it interesting that after the discussion here that it is now “not about us”.

It doesn’t matter as they can run the business as they see fit but it is interesting that the tone is different after some of us have pointed out that this kind of thing is not common for businesses.

I'd guess they haven't read this thread. I didn't see much in the blog entry that relates to this thread, and very little there that's any departure from their normal messaging.

If they did read this thread I would expect a very different response.

Good morning Richard (at least on East Coast US).

I brought up that the need for funding was not logical on the surface, in this very thread. The blog changed the messaging on for the fundraiser from needing to continue development and retain employees to needing to help those who cannot afford to renew their licenses. These are very different goals. Again, they said they are counting it as income. So they are counting on their customers to give extra money to retain these people. As I said in an earlier post, it is their business to run as they see fit. It is just very different than what was originally communicated.

LiveCode have sent "mixed messages" in the past, which have been 'misinterpreted'
(and by 'misinterpreted' I mean interpreted in a different way from the way LiveCode
have subsequently claimed they are meant to be interpreted).

However, in mitigation, LiveCode's announcements are read by a vast number of people
with a wide variety of mother tongues / dialects and life experiences, so it would be
extremely odd if they all interpreted LiveCode's announcements in exactly the same way.

The only way to avoid a misinterpretation at all, as I am sure most of us realise round these parts,
is to shut up completely: and that would not necessarily be useful either.
I brought up that the need for funding was not logical on the surface
Computer languages are logical, but very little else is.

This is why Carnap, Chomsky and other, frankly, rather naive types who get obsessed
about systematisation have got themselves in trouble.

This morning I suddenly had an urge to go and eat some dark chocolate; and why, forbye?
I can no more explain that than you can: but, I'll tell you something; it tasted wonderful. 8)

AirBnB just recently sent out emails to much the same effect, as I mentioned earlier, in wierd times like these, your likely to see a lot more of this happening than under normal circumstances.

Yes, AirBNB was way more impacted. I worked in the travel industry (travel insurance) for 10 years. The cash flow practically stopped.

LOL. I miss chocolate. I've been Keto for 2 years (down 90lbs) and I still miss it. I'll get some at Thanksgiving (late November) here in the states :-). My splurge day!

So they are counting on their customers to give extra money to retain these people.
Well, well: I was in the supermarket 3 weeks ago when the father (a wealthy doctor) of one of my pupils
offered to pay my grocery bill ("I know your income is much reduced at the moment.").

I felt extremely lucky that:

1. At least one of the parents whose children I teach thought I was worth that. 8)

2. I was able to politely refuse his offer and suggest that there were probably an awful lot of people
who were in worse financial straits than I was.

Now I am fortunate enough NOT to have to ask my "customers" to lob me some money, but, quite
obviously LiveCode are not.

I don't see anything wrong with what LiveCode are doing, and wonder, slightly, why this has to continue
to be a "hot" topic at all.

Obviously some people are blithely unaware of the affect this Virus thing is having.

This situation was not the sort of situation anyone had on their radar when they were doing a spot of forward planning.
