Opinions on proposed forum taxonomy change

I've been making a few minor adjustments to make the forums less cluttered, and there are two things I'm considering on which I could use your feedback:

1. Merge both "Intermediate" and "Advanced" into a single heading.
While both are clearly distinct from "Getting Started", the difference between "Intermediate" and "Advanced" seems difficult to define, and more difficult to know where to place sections within them, and most importantly just unnecessary.

2. Remove "Project Specific" group, moving "Creating Games" to whatever we name a merged "Intermediate" and "Advanced" group, and moving the other two sections there ("Digital Art and Portfolios" and "Business and Kiosks") into the archives, since they're arguably too specialized to be of much value, and haven't had a post in two years.

Any objections to this proposed simplification? Alternatives?

Sounds OK to me, certainly any question I can think of (before my morning coffee quota is filled) would seem likely to fall into either 'beginner' or 'advanced' without middle ground.

I don't know enough about the other sections to comment on 2.

Richard.

Whatever you have ever thought a good idea, I did as well.

Thanks for the input. I've completed this round of forum changes, with task-oriented sections now labeled:
- Getting Started With LiveCode
- Developing With LiveCode
- Extending LiveCode

The "Extending" section will need further refinement to separate externals, plugins, Builder, etc., which I'll work on over the coming days.

Thanks, SparkOut. Cleaning up "Extending" will be a bit of work, but I must say I feel less overwhelmed when I arrive here now that we have a bit more clarity with task-focused sections.

Well, Yes, "Extending" is, err, extensive and a sort of grab-bag full of stuff that could be
popped into a fair few sub-categories.

I wish you luck. 8)

At the moment I'm looking at Using and Making for both Plugins and Externals. Plugins and Externals have historically been lumped together, but they serve such different purposes (one's for the IDE, the other for deployments) that they really deserve to be separated.

The drag of it is that with so many years of co-mingled threads within those topics, they'll have to be moved by hand. :( I'll put it off until I have a long free morning and some strong coffee. :)

Well, my son in California says that, so far, you are not all forced to work from home: but the time will most likely come . . .

Here, in Bulgaria, all institutions, non-food shops, libraries, cinemas, theatres and restaurants are shut down until 13 April.

Of course, as my EFL school is closed for at least 2 weeks you can be 100% sure I will be a lot more ACTIVE
(with all that entails) hereabouts.
