Strange Fruit

Everytime I type www.youtube.com I am redirected via something called
www.gositedeal.com to another site called ww-youtube.com, and, similarly
when I type www.amazon.co I am redirected via www.gositedeal.com
to another site called www.emazon.co.

I have tried deleting cookies and so forth, but the problem continues.

You have been installed with "malware", probably an addon to firefox.

Is this on a Mac with an unsupported OS version?

No: MacOS 10.14.6

Presumably Malware, if it has been installed as Firefox add-ons

[Waterfox]

"just" removing the add-ons won't be sufficient.

Well, that is a source of great joy:

I removed ALL of my add-ons from Waterfox, restarted Waterfox and the
problem has gone away.

Thank you SparkOut for your very great help. :D

Being a bit stupid, I did NOT note down the names of all the add-ons before I removed them:

BUT they were all aimed at downloading youtube content.

Neither Avast nor AVG picked these up.

If you can pin down which extension caused that and report it to Mozilla they'll remove it and probably also ban the author, useful for others.

Here's what I use for downloading youtube content:

Just set this as a bookmark, don't download the helper app. There's a malware doppelganger of the helper app around somewhere, and I'm not sure how to tell the difference. But the website does the job neatly.

Someone got 'there' first:

"This add-on recently started redirecting users with malware-like behavior to ww-youtube.com when visiting youtube.com"

For anyone missing the context, the band in the movie is named "Strange Fruit".
I can really recommend the movie, very very funny! :-)

I thought you were referring to the Billie Holiday song.

If I post the URL of what I wish to download there, as you suggested, I end up being directed to all sorts of betting and gambling pages . . .

Mmmm... time to fix your browser add-ons. Sounds like you're still getting hijacked.
