What Linux distro(s) are you running LiveCode on?
I'm not sure how LiveCode have worked out which Linux distro to use as their baseline
system.
It might prove instructive to them if any Forum users who are deploying LiveCode on Linux
could let us all know which systems they are using.

Re: What Linux distro(s) are you running LiveCode on?
I deploy LiveCode across a wide variety of legacy systems running Xubuntu 32 and 64 bit.
I have done than for 14 years with NO problems at all.

Re: What Linux distro(s) are you running LiveCode on?
i'm running Ubuntu Mate 64bit 18.04 on a triple boot system
Re: What Linux distro(s) are you running LiveCode on?
I dunno either, but I sure wish that (for the deb support) they had gone with actual base debian, instead of 'buntu, since there are far more distros based on debian than buntu, including buntu itself.richmond62 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 31, 2019 11:43 amI'm not sure how LiveCode have worked out which Linux distro to use as their baseline

As for the distros I prefer, antiX tops the list, followed by q4os, mx, LMDE (Linux mint Debian Edition 2, I don't care much for LMDE 3). When I am not using those, I'm most likely found in various BSDs or Unix environments.
Re: What Linux distro(s) are you running LiveCode on?
We're using RHEL 7.6
Re: What Linux distro(s) are you running LiveCode on?
This strength of all these distro's is also it's weakness. Too difficult and to many choices for the masses. If it was simpler/less choices then probably more people would install Linux. Then there would be much more programs and solutions and games available. As in fact it is a great OS.

Re: What Linux distro(s) are you running LiveCode on?
I have also run LiveCode on MX Linux: LiveCode was not a problem,
but MX Linux was, so I dumped that.
Currently also running LiveCode with Ubuntu MATE 18.04 32-bit.
Seems that all Ubuntu flavours cope.
I do tend to agree, if one is going to use Ubuntu as a base system it
might be more sensible to "go upstairs" and use Debian as the baseline.

Only if one is going to expect un-computer-savvy end-users to install theirToo difficult and to many choices for the masses.
Linux operating system themselves:
All the Ubuntu flavours are "goofy" enough, once they have been installed
for anyone.
I have installed Xubuntu for something like 50 old-age pensioners and they were
all up-and-running within 24 hours.
If more off-the-peg computer shops would offer 2 or 3 pre-installed Linux distros,
and not hiding "somewhere smelly round the back", as viable alternatives to
the ubiquitous Windows, then Linux might do rather better as a desktop offering.
Re: What Linux distro(s) are you running LiveCode on?
To use yes, but to choose which distro... Windows is also easy to use for many people, but installing not for everyone. All the Ubuntu flavours are "goofy" enough, once they have been installed
for anyone.
just a few years and i'll be hitting that too...i installed Ubuntu mate too for my father, i hear no complains so must be ok. (but all he does is emailing and internet-surfingI have installed Xubuntu for something like 50 old-age pensioners and they were

Hi everyone,
SSD Multi booting on various Linux since I like some features or Desktop or some App in dif Stores of each of those.
running With LC 9.6.1 with the best layout rendering (so far tested) on Zorin 15.
Tested LC also on Manjaro but faced hiding problem with the Tool Palette...
Other intalled but yet not tested with LC
- FerenOS,
- Mint,
- Ubu is gone now (just tested too many thing on it and it got too heavy/slow)
- replaced it by OpenMandriva, yesterday
- still have 60GB for another "friendly" distro..to be
(clearlinux, lost somewhere among the partitions )
Still targeting few other distro as Fedora, etc...but 1) disk space is limited, 2) Harder to install along others or will just wipe them out, Seems some Linux OS Teams have no will to allow friendly side by side installs.
(ClearLinux being one of them, noops?)
2nd HD also has W10 for Window App testing and AndroidX86 (recent install)
I'm no much of a Win user so Lin is my main booting OS.
possible extra install on this 2nd HD would be :
- Debian and
- Arch*...
Looking for ways to run/install a Mac "distro" too so I could test at least the Mac versions of my App...without buying another PC, would be cool, whoever has installed some MAc OS on a PC, Pls ; let me know how you did it.
(without the use of a Virt. Machine if poss. my i3 Mini PC is not very powerfull for that )

Re: What Linux distro(s) are you running LiveCode on?
The search term you would use is **'hackintosh'
**Disclaimer - as (should be) stated in many of the articles you will read from such a search, actually creating a 'hackintosh' is not condoned by Apple, who states you may only install their software on their hardware. Reading about it is not illegal, though, as far as I know

I had a friend who was told that about s*x with horses: didn't do him muchReading about it is not illegal, though, as far as I know
good when the police came and took him and his computer away.
I, also, have friend who runs an architect's bureau in Berlin with 25 Hackintosh systems.
So, as they say, your mileage may vary.
Re: What Linux distro(s) are you running LiveCode on?
just look on tonymacx86.com and you can find all info about it. Running BigSur now without any problems on my triple boot together with win10 and Ubuntu. And must say Ubuntu is the fastest booting within 2sec desktop is there. You need to put the MacOS on a separate SSD, and win10 and Ubuntu on another disk.

Well, *IF* he was just reading about it (no pictures, especially of little chid'rn in there), then your legal system must be WAY different from here hee hee.richmond62 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 24, 2021 9:09 pmI had a friend who was told that about s*x with horses: didn't do him muchReading about it is not illegal, though, as far as I know

@ sphere - yah, it is a fast boot. I run all other test OSes in a VM, the most generic hardware specs I can manage. In the past, though, I've had as many as 25 OSes booting from a single drive (no macs though)

There's a lot of distros out there.
http://hannahmontana.sourceforge.net/
LC uses the ones their tooling runs on, which also roughly correlate with approximations of installed base.
