To many forums ?

Post by Simon Knight » Tue Nov 29, 2022 2:37 pm

Hi,

Recently I have made a couple of posts on two different forums that have not yet received any replies. This is unusual as normally replies are posted within twenty four hours. While this lack of responses could be for a multitude of reasons I do wonder if one of them is that there are fifty nine forums on this site.

Is having so many useful or does it reduce readers, what do you think?

Simon,

Do you mean too many "panes" on this single forum? I thinks so, and I also think that the number of those were recently reduced.

But I agree there are a lot. I only use perhaps ten total, and four regularly. Anyway, Richard changed my life a few years ago; I simply open the "quick links" gadget, and read about the new posts.

Hi Craig,

Yes I guess I mean panes. I used forums plural because that is what is at the top of each page and is also how you may apply a filter when using the advanced search.

Moving on what is the "quick links" gadget you speak of ?

This usually means people don't know the answer, not that no one has seen them ;)

I personally always check "unread posts" under "quick links". After the first 6 months of wondering through these forums I decided it would be more effort than profit reading the rest, so I marked them all as 'read', and now 'unread posts' shows me all new/unread posts. I saw your posts but it's not something I could answer - so I didn't ;)
