Test button returns an error message

Post by sms5138 » Mon Feb 15, 2016 11:27 pm

I've had a heck of a time recently it seems. Now i'm trying to test my application on the iOS simulator, and when i click test it just pops up a red "!" and says, "iPhone Simulator 8.2"

Wondered if anyone knew what this issue meant.

thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

I've attached the image of the error message in case my previous post did not clearly explain what i get.

As it's not very descriptive I'm not sure what I can do to correct it.

I'm sure this cam about when i updated to Livecode 7.1.1 and Xcode 7.1, but I'm not sure why this would have created the problem.

Hi Sean,

I would try upgrading to LC 7.1.2 (RC2) and Xcode 7.2 to see if this resolves the issue for you. Let us know how you get on.

Kind Regards,

Neil Roger

So i've made the changes you've suggested, and it didn't seem to fix the problem. I actually am no getting a new message when trying to build my application for deployment that i was not getting before, in addition to the iPhone simulator issue noted above.

I do see that I have the proper provisioning profiles in Xcode... so i don't know what this issue is...

So now i've become a bit more confused. :?

do you have any idea why it might see the provisioning profile in the drop down list, and i can locate said profile in Xcode, but livecode would give this message.

Thanks for any help you can give.

thanks Bernd,

That's a relief. That fixed the issue with building apps, but i'm still having the iPhone simulator from above so it didn't fix that.

I just did downloaded the certificate, and imported it again. That seemed to have fixed the problem with profile issue, and the apps will build and upload successfully once more.

I'm wondering if for some reason my iOS simulator did not update with everything else.

Does anyone any experience with checking/updating that specific piece? Based on the livecode error i'm getting (vague as it may be) I'm assuming that the issue could be found in there.

I'd actually dug up an old sata drive, and plugged it into a caddy to boot to it, and it had an older version of livecode, and Xcode, and it seemed to have no issue launching the app in a test environment.

It was slow as could be due as it was connected via USB, but it did work.

That's what led me to believe that it may be a problem with the simulator version itself as the test environment worked on a version older than 8.2.

That's just the rabbit hole I'm exploring right now, but would love to get any advice that can be provided.

Thank again for all the help you've provided regarding this. if you have any ideas let me know, and I'll update here if I stumble across a fix for it myself.

Hi Sean,

could you please specify your MacOSX version.

Since I am still at MacOSX 10.9.5 I am stuck with Xcode 6.2. But that includes the Simulator 8.2. Just tried the simulator and it worked. Just made sure I selected a suitable device in the Simulator (used iPad Air and iPhone 4S and 5S) and then iPad or iPhone in LC as device.

Kind regards

Bernd

Hi Brend,

I'm running 10.10.5 currently. I have started the simulator, and selected the desired device, and then made a suitable save in livecode selecting iPhone/ipad.

But when I click test it seems to pop up that error message each time.

I drilled down into the contents of the livecode app, and noted that I have the following simulators listed in my tools:
Screen Shot 2016-02-17 at 9.20.08 AM.png
so from what i can tell (though i could be misunderstanding the purpose of this directory) I do have an entry in livecode for simulator 8.2, and if the version i have of simulator is 8.2 then to my understanding it should work.

Am I missing understanding the purpose of the runtimes located in this directory?

Hi Sean,

unfortunately I can not test was you are seeing since I am not using MacOSX 10.10.5

I wrote a little utility to gather info from the LC scripts and it says
LC 7.1.1 on MacOSX 10.10.4 supports

iOS version 8.2 Xcode version 6.2
iOS version 8.4 Xcode version 6.4
iOS version 9.1 Xcode version 7.1
from my understanding you would need Xcode 6.2 to run simulator 8.2. Since you have Xcode 7.1 you would use simulator 9.1.

Does it work if you use simulator 9.1?

There are ways to have multiple Xcode versions and to test on different simulators.

But I am out on a limb here, would be nice if someone more familiar with this could chime in.

Kind regards
Bernd

One thing you might want to try is removing all simulators from your Xcode installation and adding them again.

Open Xcode and navigate to "Window---->Devices". You should see something like the following (Im using Xcode 7.2)
Screen Shot 2016-02-17 at 15.23.04.png
What you will want to do, is delete each simulator until you are left with -
Screen Shot 2016-02-17 at 15.24.05.png
I would then add 1 iPad sim and 1 iPhone sim (leaving names as default) which will give you this-

After you've done this restart LiveCode and attempt to deploy to one of the simulators again. This will hopefully sort things out.

Keep us posted on how you get on.

Kind Regards,
