My first commercial LiveCode app

Post by gjtaylor99 » Sun Jun 22, 2014 12:23 pm

Not sure if we are allowed to do product placement in this forum, but I've just had (June 20th) my first app, "Sounds IELTS", accepted by the App Store on iTunes, and I am still walking on air, so to speak. Whoo-hoo! :D

It's an iPhone/iPad/iPod touch app for English language learners. I'm ashamed to say, for the little that it does, that it has been in development for 2 years, off and on. After so long, it is such a relief to have actually got it finished and working and in the App Store.

I had a secret dream that the Apple reviewers might be wowed by my app and feature it as a small gem and sales would sky-rocket! Hmn... not quite. After one day, I discovered in iTunes Connect that it had had only 1 paid download and 1 free promo code download, and these were probably family or friends in the UK. I realised it was true that without a lot of promotion it will probably get lost amongst the crowd. So I've spent the last two days on publicity-related activities and need to continue to do so.

A big thank you to the RunRev team for their great online courses, and for their excellent support recently, as things got near the crunch point.

Hi Geoff,
Congratulations!
I think it's ok for you to post this announcement as we (I) like to hear of new releases made with LiveCode. I wouldn't post promotional stuff (New updated, Redeem your coupon here etc.).

Fourthworld (a member here) has some writings on marketing, and it's something terrifying like twice as many hours/dollars/pounds should be spent on marketing compared to development.

You should write to support@runrev.com to get your kickstarter badge, you shouldn't have to place the image in your signature.

What was the solution to the Address Book issue you had?

Simon

I don't know. It just went through. Maybe I had previously forgotten to tick a box in the iTunes form. Or, it could be connected to the fact that I used a slightly later stable build of LiveCode, the one currently available, 6.6.2.
