disappointing UI

New to LiveCode... and as iOS deployment is advertised I was disappointed to find out that the controls have a very ugly Motif look by default... Come on runrev, you can do better than that. Hope that this will be fixed freely soon.

Or am I missing something?

Unfortunately not! :?

Check these urls for (not free) alternative LiveCode solutions:
http://mobgui.com/
http://tmtools.tactilemedia.com/tmcontrol/

Maybe there are more, but I don't know, don't have an iOS license.

Best

Another common approach, which is free, is to use images of native controls and set buttons to use those images as icons. That works well for back and forward buttons, list backgrounds, and other common elements. Images for most mobile controls are available all over the web for both iOS and Android. Or you can create controls in XCode and then just take snapshots of them. LiveCode does provide native controls for things that don't lend themselves to icons; scrollers, pickers, web views, and so forth.

In addition to mobgui and TMtools, mergExt externals suite has mergPop and mergAnswerColor for additional UI tools.

We just updated our app with one of the externals, mergPop, from the mergExt externals suite. It was an elegant and easy solution. Monte was very fast in support when we had questions.

Take a look at a small screenshot of our app using mergPop:
