Dear List Folks,

I’m pleased to announce that LiveCode 5 has just been released. Our servers have been updated with the new product and it is available for download from your accounts, if you have a valid 5.0 license. To log in to your account go here:

http://www.runrev.com/store/account/products/

If you don't have an up to date 5.0 license, here's why you might want to get one:

• Fastest Ever App Performance
10X faster rendering performance than previous versions means LiveCode built apps are faster and better than ever. Applications already written in LiveCode can take advantage of the hardware acceleration without rewriting your code.
• High-Performance Graphics Engine
Make great games or smoother, slicker apps than ever before with LiveCode 5.0. LiveCode now utilizes graphics hardware acceleration and OpenGL, animated sprites, textures and scrolling backgrounds, collision detection, vector graphics in popular formats, drop shadows, transition effects, multi-channel audio and video to make your apps stand out from the crowd.
• Support for iOS 5
Up to the minute app development with support for iOS 5.
• In App Purchases
Make more money with your apps – even free apps! In app purchasing accounts for 72% of all revenue for the iPhone apps that include it! Access this revenue now with LiveCode 5.0.
• Last but not least, we're giving away a free copy of the newly optimized and excellent animationEngine with every LiveCode purchase during October. This includes upgrades and platform addons as well as new licenses.

Upgrade options:

You can upgrade just one deployment option, or all deployment options, from within your account.

For Commercial Customers:
For the first time ever we’re offering an excellent deal with this upgrade to get a complete license. For the heavily discounted upgrade price of only $749 yearly you can get access to every commercial deployment option as well as the LiveCode developer program. Plus, you’ll get the peace of mind that you’ll get every update and new deployment option that we release during the year included in your annual cost.

You can find more details in the ‘Upgrade to Complete’ tab in your account:

Thought I'd pass on the licensing requirements if you had purchased a one year upgrade to 4.6.4 and thought you had been covered for LC 5.0. You are not. Obviously I was wrong in my interpretation.
Here's the reply from support for clarification to others...

Thank you for your request.
It looks like you do need to purchase an update to access version 5 I'm afraid. When you purchase a new LiveCode license, you get three months worth of free upgrades, during which you receive any new release automatically. You also will get any .0x release for your major version number eg if you bought version 5, you will also get 5.0.1, 5.0.2 etc. If we release an upgrade to 5.1, outside the three month grace period, you would need to pay a "minor" upgrade fee to get that release. If we release 6.0, you would need to pay a "major" upgrade fee. Typically "minor" upgrades cost around 1/3rd of the initial license price, and "major" upgrades cost around 1/2.
Your purchase was more than three months ago, so you will need to get a paid update if you want to access 5.

Right now I'm feeling rather annoyed; considering whether or not to upgrade again just 4 months later.

Yeah. I got exactly the same when I inquired.
So pretty much they can charge whatever they want whenever they want.

I have to write that I feel 3 months is rediculously short.
I take full responsibility for my decision to invest in LiveCode.

As I've written many times before I wouldn't have invested in LiveCode without the OmegaBundle.

RunRev is a business.
So for RunRev to use the 10x speed increase as a reason to generate more revenue shouldn't be a surprise to me.
Even though as Paul pointed out I'll be paying (about) another half the price just 6 months later.

And I can choose NOT to upgrade now.
And wait until I can afford the upgrade where I feel the version contains enough changes to warrant the price.

Just to clarify, I'm developing for Android and NOT iOS at all.

Looks like Runrev have finally priced me out of their market after 5 years...
I'll stick with LC 4.6.4 desktop for now and go with other products for Mobile.

Priced me out of their market in less than one year. I will be looking at basic4android. I am really disappointed with my purchase for the mobile platform. I am not happy at all with having to buy an upgrade and it really leaves me with no desire to continue my venture of developing with LiveCode. I thought when
I purchased the pre-Release for Android I would receive a version with all the basic features. In my opinion Android is still lacking to much to pay another fee.

What a waste of money. Oh well, lesson learned.

Hum.... it looks impressive (and not expensive) ! I understand your very mad smiley.

Still... new sets of functions, new commands to learn... to debug... dozens of tutorials to read, learn, and learn again. etc. etc. It's boring.

Not to me.
Love learning new things.
Especially, when it actually what I want and it works.
(and its sooooo cheap!)

Yeah, that's fine if you ONLY want to develop for Android. But that's a mugs game! Today you HAVE to cross develop if you are serious about it. And LiveCode is the only TRUE solution to this conundrum. I started using RunRev back about 5 years ago. Then the price point was 4 times as much as now. So think yourselves lucky. For me, they've priced me back into the market.
