1001 things to do with LiveCode

Post by AndyP » Sat Jan 09, 2021 1:35 pm

One of my many New Years resolutions is be more active in the Livecode community and as such over the past couple of weeks I have been discussing with Peter W A Wood who runs the blog, how I can help with 1001 things to do with LiveCode.

http://livecode1001.blogspot.com/

1001 things to do with LiveCode has not had a fresh entry since Sept 2016 which is a shame as it is a great advertisement for what can be achieved with LiveCode.

I have now been made an author of the blog and I am actively searching for new content.

if you have any examples of LiveCode projects, Desktop, Mobile and Web then please consider adding them to the blog using this form.

http://livecode1001.blogspot.com/p/ please read the editors guide first http://livecode1001.blogspot.com/p/editors-guide.html

Many thanks

Most excellent, Andy. Thanks for taking that on, and to Peter for stewarding its creation.

I learned Jacque made a weather app before they were everywhere! (although really, I should have guessed!)

Thanks for the link(s) Andy :)

Thanks, Andy.
Unfortunately most of the links seem to be dead. Not a particularly good showcase for what LC is capable of.
If I were trying to check out the links I'd get the impression that LiveCode development was a dead end.
The first link that's still alive is Pascal Lehner's tate83 Mediawiki converter, and it hasn't been touched since 2013.

I need to go through the entries and do a little housekeeping.

Thanks for the heads-up.

Link rot is a problem for any site with longevity.

Would it help if you had a team to lend a hand checking those things?

Indeed. I'd be willing to toss in a bit of research there.

...and I was somewhat wrong about the dead links - the link to Alan Stenhouse's Re-Collections app is still live. I hadn't followed up on it because it's iPad/iPhone only.

Unfortunately I took Re-Collections off the App Store a while back as I haven't had time to update it. Sorta intend to get back to it at some stage but when is a good question! It was originally a Mac application, but then customised for mobile.
cheers, Alan

Dang. Well, the web page at https://scruffmonkey.com/Re-Collections.html is at least a good overview of what you accomplished, and by reference an excellent example of what LiveCode can do on mobile devices.

Hi Richard, thanks for the offer, I think I should be ok, but I will keep you in mind if I have too many problems.

I now have full admin rights to the blog and noticed that Blogger has a nice Rest api, so I'm thinking about putting together a LC interface for posting new articles into the blog in draft status which should male it easier for authors to add new posts as well as making my job easier.

...might as well throw in the link checking for past and future articles right there, as long as your doing it anyway

There are a gazillion automated tools for that. Google "automatic link verification tool".
