No problems, but as Jacque pointed out, you don't even have to write it, you could just automate having another link checker do it ;)

Find a bad link is the first step. The reason so many sites, even big ones like Apple, sometimes have link rot is deciding what to do about it.

If you made a policy of telling submitters that any change to the URL will have the submission tossed, the whole thing can be automated.

But sometimes URLs change, or domains, or we don't know if the project has moved or died but it's really cool and we don't want to drop it so we contact the author...

If you'd like a team for that I'm sure we can find enough here to help.
