animationEngine 2.9

Post by malte » Fri Jun 20, 2008 8:58 pm

Hi all,

I'm very pleased to announce the immediate availability of
animationEngine 2.9.

For those of you who do not know it yet:

animationEngine is a library stack that lets you move stuff, check for
collisions, handle geometric calculations and lots more cool things to
make your multimedia sparkle. It is being used in games and business
apps. Version 2.9 offers 1 new geometric function, 2 new easing
effects and a new moving method. The most important change is the
introduction of the new command aeMoveTo. If you are interested in
reading more, you find a small article about animatIonengine 2.9 in
the latest revUp Newsletter.

http://www.runrev.com/newsletter/june/i ... etter3.php

As mentioned in a previous post, this update is free to everyone, who
holds a valid animationEngine 2.x license. If you want to update or
just try it out, grab your copy here:

http://www.runrev.com/downloads/all-dow ... on-engine/

The new version will autodetect your previous license if run on the
same machine as ae 2.x. Any edition of Revolution 2.8 or higher is
required to use the library.

The trial version comes with a small demo stack sporting the new
aeMoveTo command. I hope you like it.

All the best,

Malte

PS: Before I forget it. If you do not have a license yet, but want one
you should hurry. The price for animationEngine will go up on July the
8th, so if you want to get a copy of the new animationEngine for the
old price don't wait - grab your copy now!

Hi Lestroso,

Rev 2.8.1 is the earliest I have to check here at the moment. Could you please tell me what exactly does not work (eventually with screenshots) and which steps you were taking to have it error? I am not sure if I understand correctly what is happening. Does the demo work, or does it not? Where do you get stuck?

All the best,

Malte

Hy Malte,
the demo don't work for me....i don't know.....i have followed your steps regularly....but without success......it seems like revolution don't recognize animationengine....but i don't know why.....

do you have an email, so i will send you the picture of the error that rev ide says, because i don't be able to enclose here that images.

the steps that i have made:

1-open revolution ide

2-open animation engine by open from menu open stack in revolution ide

3-open ae29demo stack

4-open messagebox and then type : start using stack "animationEngine"

5-then click the start button in ae29demo stack but i receive an error like this:

Code: Select all

     	executing at 11:38:11 AM
Type	Handler: can't find handler
Object	Start
Line	aeSetFrameRate 25
Hint	aeSetFrameRate

this is the problem...............i don't know

i repeat if you want i 'll give the error images captured by my computer.....

see you soon.....

bye

Now i have downloaded the 2.9 trial version of revolution ide and tryed your animationengine works fine.....

but i have the rev ide 2.8.0 ide license why don't work with your plug-in???

i have seen that when open animationengine in rev 2.8.0 don't appear the field for the unlock code and also the button "unlock".

May be in error? or the compiler don't work well in 2.8.0......but why?? can you fix it?

now i will check again and try......

thanks again

Hi lestroso,

ae 2.9 requires rev 2.8.1 or higher. I found the 2.7 and 2.8.0 versions of Revolution too unstable to work with the new features I have implemented in the library. The first error message you get seems to indicate that the ae 2.9 version has not been loaded correctly, or simply does not work correctly with 2.8.0. I can check on monday in the office if ae can be convinced to work with rev 2.8.0, but if I recall correctly there was a reason it would not, even though I do not remember that reason atm...

However, cat you upgrade your Rev IDE to 2.8.1? If in doubt, please contact support@runrev.com about it.

More on Monday,

Malte

I had the suspect that you have talk about....

now,

i cannot upgrade, because the ide is too expensive.to bought now...and so i have bought an unstable version 2.8.0...

So at the moment i cannot use your plugin..... i'm not so little alterated....

thanks again malte debrill,

bye

Hi lestroso,

the only advise I can give to you regarding your Rev IDE is to contact support@runrev.com. They are always helpful and interested to sort things out. That said, you can still use animationengine 2.1 (the previous version) which is available for download here:

http://downloads.runrev.com/revselect/a ... gine21.zip

This version will work in any Revoultion IDE later than Rev. 2.1. It lacks the new stuff of course, still it is useful.

Hi Lestroso,

with AE you basically get access to my code base. No openGl, but pretty sophisticated stuff. I might sound a bit like a boaster, however I will tell it anyway. With AE you will be able to push Revs animation capabilities to the max. The main difference between AE 2.1 and AE 2.9 is the internal handling of basic movement. It takes the pain out of writing timers and adds new easing effects to Rev. With AE 2.1 you get the techniques I used in games until a year and a half ago, AE 2.9 gives you access to most of the techniques I currently use in Rev.

If you want to see the lib in action visit

http://www.awesomemegamightygames.com/p ... cation.php

And download our game drops!

If you are looking for openGL and heavy 3d stuff though, Rev simply is not your tool of choice and it would be wiser to look elsewhere.

Hope that helps,

Malte

Hi Lestroso,

just to give some heads up. I have dug into the reason why it will not work in versions prior to 2.8.1. The buggy stuff was in 2.7 not 2.8.0, BUT 2.8.1 introduced a feature that I could not miss out for AE. private commands. The ability to have those brought a 20% speed gain in the library. So the incompatibility is not Revs fault, but my design decision, to have the lib work as fast as possible.

All the best,

Malte

Hi Lestroso,

if your italian reseller does not accept PAYPAl contact runrev directly. If you contact support they should be able to let you pay by PAYPAL.

Best,

Malte
