mergAndroid released!

Post by monte » Mon Sep 02, 2013 4:57 am

Hi LiveCoders

The long awaited day has come. With the release of LiveCode 6.1.1 RC 4 Android externals are finally a reality. Today I'm releasing my first experiments with this new method of extending LiveCode. While the SDK is still being finalised I have decided to release a single external packed with a smorgasbord of features that will eventually be moved into more appropriately named externals (some providing feature parity with the the current range of iOS externals).

The features so far are presentation of a toast, external storage monitoring and paths, video recording, video picking, barcode scanning and document preview. Barcode scanning relies on the presence of the Barcode Scanner or Barcode Scanner + app. Document preview will use the appropriate app for the document type.

mergAndroid is available exclusively to mergExt Complete (http://mergext.com/buy-mergext) users and won't be sold separately until the SDK settles and the features are moved into more appropriately named individual externals.

Cheers

Are there any user guides for Android Externals yet from RunRev. How do we little people get to start building externals for Android?

But well done Monte and thank you.

You would probably be best to read the android externals thread on the engine forum if you are interested to implement an external at this stage. It's not really documented and uses changes to the lcidl compiler that I've been working on with Mark Waddingham. You will need to checkout https://github.com/montegoulding/liveco ... ternals_v5 to get my latest changes then compile the lcidl compiler and use revtestexternal as a basis of your external.

Hi Monte,
I just found this post from 2013.
Where is mergAndroid available ? The link points to a page which says that it's now a livecode product.
I'm looking very urgently for two functions, Maps like mergMK and QR-Codes as mergZXing
I would be very glad to hear from you.

Best regards

Ulrich

Hi Ulrich did you ever get an answer to your question? I'm facing the same issue...

Thanks
Simon

Heya Simon,
you might be able to get in touch with him through his site if he doesn't wind up here (I don't know how often he visits the boards).

Thanks bogs, I decided to send an email to support@livecode.com I guess that would be the fastest way to find an answer. Eventually I will post the outcome here...

Best!

EDITED:

So this is the answer I got from LC
On the subject of mergAndroid... not such good news. This was really an
experiment Monte did some time ago and I do not believe he finished it.
I fill in an Enhancement Request on the Quality board.

Monte is on the https://Gitter.im LiveCode chat board fairly often (where he's helped me out with some LiveCode builder problems)
