List of those that do . . .
In the light of the fact that GNU-Linux distros are not monolithic, more a family of
operating systems that use the Linux kernel to get started, it might be a good thing
to start a list of these distros with comments as to what works on each distro and what doesn't.

Zorin OS [ Watch this space ]
https://zorin.com/os/
The Zorin OS webpage did NOT seem to indicate that while Zorin OS Lite has the XFCE desktop,
Zorin OS Core has GNOME. I am fairly anti-GNOME.
My Xubuntu 22.04 beta was taking yonks to boot up, so currently installing Zorin OS Core.
Will try LiveCode with both Zorin OS Core pure and simple . . .
. . . and then with the Xubuntu desktop package.

Re: List of those that do . . .
Well, F*ck-a-Duck: Zorin OS Core goes "all funny" when trying to do a
sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop
and goes on about 'unmet dependencies'.
So, currently installing LiveCode 9.6.3.
Will run the thing, and then blank the computer and install Zorin OS Lite (which I have previous experience with).

Re: List of those that do . . .
So . . . LC 9.6.3 works on Zorin OS Core . . .
Except:
1. Due to the Zorin GNOME peelie-wallie colour scheme the whole of the LC IDE looks all washed out.
2. The Dictionary, which should load in a web-browser, does NOT.

As you know, I've had recent issues with Xubuntu (21.xx), but I'll collect them here...richmond62 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 22, 2022 11:52 amXubuntu with NO add-ons works 100%.
https://xubuntu.org/
Issues just using one of the default XFCE 'dark' themes that came with Xubuntu, but that's just cosmetic. However, once I started to customize the install with a few bells and whistles (but mostly ASLA/JACK music stuff), then I had serious issues with windows constantly loosing focus, making the message box unusable (and also a 'glitch' with then prefs window shows up then too). Another user has indicated that I'm not the only one who has experienced these issues. Maybe it has something to do with some "newer" window manager library? By "newer" I mean newer than Ubuntu 16.xx which is now well past LTS / EOL!
I had issue with the Installer on Ubuntu Studio (something about not liking the version of GDK libs that were installed), but I copied the installed IDE from a backup and it running well so far, even with some KDE Plasma eye candy goin' on! No issues with the message box or prefs window.
I intend to make an AppImage of my (HEAVILY modified) v.9.6.3 install for easy, distro agnostic, portability.

My statement:
It is unbelievably restrictive.
means EXACTLY what it says: NO Themes, No Memes, NO "Nuffin".
It is unbelievably restrictive.

This:

https://downloads.livecode.com/livecode ... -9_6_6.pdf

Is unnacceptable for a number of reasons:
1. Ubuntu is about to release version 22.04.
2. Fedora is running at version 35.
3. Debian is running at version 11.
4. "CentOS Linux 8 will reach End Of Life (EOL) on December 31st, 2021."
https://www.centos.org/news-and-events/ ... jo-videos/
[This tells us that LiveCode have done no serious compatibility checking against contemporary GNU-Linux systems for about 6 years]
5. "The requirements for GUI functionality are also required by Firefox and Chrome, so if your
Linux distribution runs one of those, it will run LiveCode."
Is a rather silly comment as I demonstrated to myself with my unfortunate experiment with Zorin OS Lite
where Firefox worked perfectly well (I used it to download the LiveCode installer), but the LiveCode MessageBox was unusable.
[I did no further testing with LiveCode as the wonky MessageBox was sufficient.]
On a tangential note: installing a Linux distro takes about an hour, but if one has a Linux LiveCode installer on a USB drive one can
test it using a LiveBoot USB disk: so that involves about 15 minutes per distro.
6. You, Me and the Rest of the World who would like to use LiveCode on a GNU-Linux distro have a lot of things to do,
and it should not be our job to mess around with Linux distros until we find something that will allow LiveCode to work, in 3 respects:
6.1. A distro on which a developer can work.
6.2. A list of acceptable distros a developer can put in a list to accompany a LiveCode standalone.
6.3. This is also important for developers who do their work on Macintosh and Windows but wish to target Linux.

Re: List of those that do . . .
I have 'cheated' in respect of Linux in that, having found that Xubuntu plain-as-plain-as-plain works with LiveCode
the computers in my school ALL run Xubuntu 18.04 and will continue to do so as long as I require.
However, these machines are NOT connected to the internet and are only used for:
1. Running my EFL standalones.
2. Teaching LiveCode.
3. Teaching Python.
4. Playing around with Turtle graphics.
5. Making simple images with GIMP 2.8.
This is not a conventional situation.

Re: List of those that do . . .
Ha, Ha, Ha . . . why does life keep throwing banana skins my way?
After my 'little adventure' with 2 flavours of Zorin OS I reinstalled Xubuntu 21.10 64-bit and have
ended up with the LiveCode MessageBox losing focus.

Re: List of those that do . . .
I'm looking to build an AppImage that should cover dependencies and make the IDE much more distro agnostic because with AppImage, much like macOS app bundles you can include all of the app's dependencies inside of the app's bundle. Similar to 'WINE bottling', you can have an AppImage that basically includes most of an operating system if need-be, in fact there already exists AppImages built on WINE.
I've been having a lot of luck using Ubuntu Studio (with KDE Plasma DE), runs in a low latency mode that makes it quite snappy.

Re: List of those that do . . .
I have not, but I do have laser printers set up on my networks that I can test it out with. I'll report back when I get a chance to.
Plain as plain, at least on Linux (X86_64) does work OK with LiveCode, apart from the common issues people have had (the browser widget / tools palette problem. I have run it on an LibreELEC build (a "JeOS" Linux with Kodi media center as it's "Desktop") build that had Chromium and had very basic OpenBox windowing that you could drop down into to do file management. I was testing the waters for wrapping LiveCode apps as Kodi plug-ins.

Heh. I can save you some trouble. Printing to a pdf works on linux. To a printer not so much without a manual workaround.
