Given how well they work in Gnome I'm surprised a change in LC would affect only one DM but
not others.
As wsamples said, these issues do not only turn up in Plasma, they also turn up in other DE's such as MATE, XFCE as pointed out earlier in this thread, and they started in earnest around early 9.x.
For instance ~
Apparently according to Richmond's statements, for 9.x to work correctly in XFCE, you'd need to be running a pre-v6 version of Debian Sid with a XFCE v. of 4.6.
Now, what has changed in XFCE in the last
10 revisions (XFCE is currently at
4.16) or in the Debian branch since v5 would be pretty hard to pin down, however, the reason you can't just
rest the problem on (distro x) using (DE y) is because all versions of Lc prior to that work as you might expect them too for the given combo, which would tend to point to the major change being something involving Lc itself.
Please note that I am not saying, nor do I mean to imply in any way, that Lc moving forward is somehow
bad, but having it perform (
mostly) correctly on only 1 DE (
Gnome) could be considered '
bad' depending on the POV of the person using it.

Glad to hear you have settled on a solution

I'll stick with
Xubuntu 10.04 32-bit
Thank you, that explains a
LOT heh. Good thing those systems are offline, btw, since that version doesn't support https in any way, shape, or form after a default installation
