Actually, I just searched the distro's you listed and grabbed the default DM(s) for each.
Waow..Cool, I'm think I should build a lil App where one could compare some details about linux Distros in a quicker way... just on my mind
But, if your looking for a 'one stop shop' to find out about any distro (not limited to 'nix), you could do worse than https://distrowatch.com/
Yeah, know about this one for ages too, same...I wish I would make some easy to use App to grab infos about most distro. ..such as their Main Fork root...I'm always a bit confused about wich one comes from what root... there is some great maps about it, but not made for smartphone uses.

I have never had this problem with 12 machines
running versions of LiveCode on Xubuntu for 15 years.
I might want to install Xubuntu too in place of Ubuntu if that can keep my ToolBar on top... still playing hide and show till now...
What Xubuntu 64bits distro version would it be ?
thanks

I don't know what a "working plan" is in terms of UI elements, but if you're seeing the LC Menu/Toolbar submarine beneath other windows maybe just set the style of revMenubar to palette?

Heh heh, I'm sorry liveme, I should have put @Richmond in front of my post, it wasn't intended for you :)

@liveme - while designing themes for various DE's isn't my specialty, I am pretty sure you don't require openbox just to customize your desktop look and feel.

Just as a for instance, since your running a number of different DE's, you could look up some of the theming sites and see if someone else has already done what you want or is close to what you want, i.e. -
KDE - https://store.kde.org/browse/cat/104/
Gnome - https://www.gnome-look.org/browse/cat/
XFCE - https://www.xfce-look.org/browse/ord/latest/

and there are many many more.

From his first post he seems to be talking about the habit of the tools palette to disappear in Plasma and the trick for getting it to reappear, not the main menu bar. This is actually something that's been discussed in a couple or three threads in the past. We've come up with advice and tricks but it does seem to be something that Plasma users have to learn to manage.

What does Plasma do that breaks simple palette behaviors?

Is that window mode supported in other apps under Plasma?

This is an issue with the LiveCode IDE that surfaced early in version 9 and became a problem in version 8.1.10 (backported "improvements'?) after having not been a problem in earlier versions. I think it's incorrect to suggest that Plasma is responsible. There are issues involving the tools palette and the message box in other desktop environments, as has also been discussed. Expect to continue to hear about them as long as they remain unaddressed.

Good that you have it isolated. I guess my surprise is that palettes have been among the few things that haven't regressed in LC on Linux. Given how well they work in Gnome I'm surprised a change in LC would affect only one DM but not others.

Hi people,
I've run LC on Zorin 15.3 (Gnome DE) and the ToolBar is behaving much better, has not disapeared once. 8)
So for practical reasons, I'll just stick to Zorin meanwhile. Thanks for all suggestions ! :idea: :idea: :idea:
:wink:

As the default window manager on Zorin OS is XFCE . . .

I have been "playinbg around" with Zorin OS 32-bit on the 12-20 year old machines I deploy in my language school
as Xubuntu stopped producing new 32-bit versions at 18.04.

I decided that, as my school machines are NOT connected to the internet (nor need to be) that I'll stick with
Xubuntu 10.04 32-bit for the foreseeable future: mainly because they use a heavily customised interface
that I have set up to serve my needs in the school.

As wsamples said, these issues do not only turn up in Plasma, they also turn up in other DE's such as MATE, XFCE as pointed out earlier in this thread, and they started in earnest around early 9.x.

For instance ~
Apparently according to Richmond's statements, for 9.x to work correctly in XFCE, you'd need to be running a pre-v6 version of Debian Sid with a XFCE v. of 4.6.

Now, what has changed in XFCE in the last 10 revisions (XFCE is currently at 4.16) or in the Debian branch since v5 would be pretty hard to pin down, however, the reason you can't just rest the problem on (distro x) using (DE y) is because all versions of Lc prior to that work as you might expect them too for the given combo, which would tend to point to the major change being something involving Lc itself.

Please note that I am not saying, nor do I mean to imply in any way, that Lc moving forward is somehow bad, but having it perform (mostly) correctly on only 1 DE (Gnome) could be considered 'bad' depending on the POV of the person using it.

@liveme ~
Glad to hear you have settled on a solution :)

Thank you, that explains a LOT heh. Good thing those systems are offline, btw, since that version doesn't support https in any way, shape, or form after a default installation ;)

Numbers, numbers . . .

I meant to write that I'm sticking with Xubuntu 18.04. :?

I suppose the one saving grace here is that if the problem was introduced as recently as v9 it should hopefully be easier to remedy.

@Richmond ~
Well, I just dl'd Xubuntu 18.04 32bit and Lc, the behavior is as expected and shown in the previous video. Since that is the case, and you say you have never witnessed the behavior demonstrated, I can only guess that one of the following is the reason -
* you do not have the tools palette and msgbox open at the same time...
* you are not running any of the newer releases ...
* you are not running the default install of /Xubuntu (which you stated earlier was modified, but did not mention in what way)...
* something else.

@Richard ~
That surely is one way to view it, heh.

*Edited to improve visibility of something else heheh.

Jumping to conclusions as fast as a kangaroo leaps over gate:
you do not have the tools palette and msgbox open at the same time...
* you are not running any of the newer releases ...
* you are not running the default install of /Xubuntu (which you stated earlier was modified, but did not mention in what way)...
* something else.
I deploy LiveCode 9.6.1 on 32 bit Xubuntu 18.04 and 64 bit Xubuntu 20.10.

I always have the tools palette open, and opening the Message box has NO efefct on the toolbox whatsoever.

The only way I ever modify Xubuntu is to set up a "task bar" (read faux Mac dock) at the screen bottom with anything from 1 to 5 rows
of apps.

The fact that, bogs, this doesn't happen with your installs does most definitely NOT mean mine are the same: everything works superbly.
