Using "replace" in the manner Otto suggests, will preserve the naming convention/structure, in case that might be important or useful.
Eg "RuritaniaFlag600x400.png" and "RuritaniaFlag1200x800.png" might become "UtopiaFlag600x400.png" and "UtopiaFlag1200x800.png" respectively. It all depends on the convention.

Yes you have a point there. I must say I didn’t get that from the discussion of the use case, I probably missed that…. I understood a single image had been copied a number of times and the aim was to rename the copies. It would be unusual to have this naming structure in a group (as opposed to a list or in the file system) but who’s to say… if that is the case then yes, 100% agree.

Aye, there are different proposed scenarios to the circumstances described by the OP. I was just mentioning that there is a reason why it *might* be useful to replace into a temp variable.
It's actually quite an old thread.
