Terribly slow LC loading time

Post by arombauts » Fri Sep 11, 2020 2:17 pm

Hello all,

What is the "normal" loading time of LC 9.6.1 Business?
It is terribly slow her on my iMac running Catalina: nearly 15 mintues !

That's way too long. I haven't timed it, but my copy launches in about 15 seconds or less. It does check with home base on launch to see if there are updates available, I wonder if it's getting stuck at that point due to an internet issue. That's all I can think of.

During launch, the dialog should tell you what it's doing if I remember right. Can you see where it gets stuck?

Thanks for your reply.

I performed a Mac cleaning, restarted with a limited number of running apps. Loading time hasn't changed.
Final Cut Pro loads in less than one minute. LC in around 10 !
LC Log reports:

Code: Select all

-------- Startup Started: Sat, 12 Sep 2020 00:53:56 +0200
-------- Startup Ended: Sat, 12 Sep 2020 01:02:33 +0200
If LC is then closed and relaunched, it takes 15 seconds: thus the internet check on LC servers is not the problem.
There are no error messages.
Loading process messages are displaying normally, at the end of the "10 minutes loading". Before that nothing on the screen for around 7-8 minutes. Just 'Livecode' on the menubar and no splashscreen... :-(

What is the full path to your LiveCode application folder?

Richard,

LC is located on my boot disk in /Applications/LiveCode Business 9.6.1.app
There files in Users/andre/Library/Preferences/RunRev

Should I remove LC and all connected files and reinstall?

The paths seem straightforward enough. Yes, it may be helpful to try a fresh install.

Do you have any third-party plugins installed?

I did it. Everything is ok now... :-)
I noticed I had numerous old files, some dating back to 'Revolution time'...
But why those file prevented a normal startup?
What was checking the app (without any error message)?... Strange.

I also remember that I was not able to perform an update to 9.6.1 from the app itself: I had to download from LC website and install it and then removed the 9.6.0. I guess this led to my problem.

Wouldn't it be an idea to have an uninstall app from LC, cleaning properly, removing old files?

Thanks anyway Richard, Jacqueline.

Normally each version is in its own folder, and they do not interfere with each other. Can't say what happened there, but glad you have a good install now.
