RunRev corrupting other software

Post by djl » Sun May 23, 2010 9:01 am

I am new to RunRev. Yesterday I installed it on my Laptop (Windows 7 Professional) and my desktop PC (Windows 7 Ultimate). On both PCs a number of my previously installed programs have stopped working (the same programs on both machines). I use Microsoft's Security Essentials alongside other spyware. I have had to reinstall each of these. I also have an uninstaller (Your Uninstalller) which was also corrupted and needed re installation. In addition Windows informed me that I had to to back-up my encryption certificates - which is strange as I have never created a file encryption certificate nor do I use data encryption on either machine. These are the obvious things. What concerns me are the things that RunRev may be doing to my PC without my knowledge. As it has happened on both PCs immediately after installing RunRev there is no other explanation or reason for the behaviour of my PCs other than RunRev itself.

I have used a rival product for years without an issue but find myself needing to create cross-platform multimedia and web application hence my interest in RunRev. However, it's hardly a reassuring start when immediately after installing it for the first time I find that it has corrupted and destroyed other programs on my PCs.

Have any other users experienced similar issues?

dji,

It is extremely unlikely that RunRev corrupts already installed software. Perhaps the installation made apparent an already existing problem, but even that is a rare thing to happen. The only similar experience I had was the corruption of older versions of RunRev as a result of installing a newer version.

Best regards,

Mark,

Thanks for the reply. It does seem strange to me that exactly the same programs were corrupted on 2 separate machines running different versions of Window 7. I've contacted the makers and waiting a reply.

David,
For what it's worth, having installed and/or re-installed RunRev numerous time on my XP, Vista and Win 7 machines, I have never experienced anything at all as you have described. My questions:

Did you install anything else in addition to RunRev?
What programs were affected?

Best regards,

Hi,

I purchased and installed tRev Editor as well. The programs affected were (as far as I am aware): Microsoft Security Essentials, CA Anti Virus, Pareto Anti Spyware and UR Soft's Your Uninstaller, all had to be re-installed on both PC and laptop. These programs monitor activity on the PCs and are either running as services or processes. Having re-installed everything appears to be working as it should but I'm concerned that it happened in the first place.
