How to use LC Server to run a Chat app on a LAN

Are you using LiveCode to create server scripts or CGIs?

How to use LC Server to run a Chat app on a LAN

Post by montymay » Sun Feb 24, 2019 10:05 am

I am a relative beginner in LC and really untrained in networking applications, and just want some confirmation that what I what to so is feasible and a pointer or two about how to begin. The IT dept at my office gave me permission to use a local only server for my primary LC standalone desktop application, which is the front end of a MySQL database on the server. But I am also interested in writing a chat application for the network users as well. I am thinking that LC Server can be configured to run a chat or messaging application. Is my plan feasible? I can't find much on how to do it. Any tips or pointers on how to begin? Thanks.

I don't know if this is what you mean, but there is a sample internet chat in the Resource Center of the IDE.

I believe there is also a lesson about chat programs, and I *think* BvG actually wrote a tutorial on one as well.
