On-Rev - How to offer service with TIO server so slow?

Are you using LiveCode to create server scripts or CGIs?

On-Rev - How to offer service with TIO server so slow?

Post by lowcostweb » Tue Sep 16, 2014 10:29 am

Hi from France
I use On-rev for developing RAD web services and it is great :) , BUT TIO server is so slow  (load status often high + red) that my service can become unusable to my users!
How can I solve this issue?
Thank you for your help.
Regards from Jean-Marc.

Do you pay the On_Rev hosting on a monthly basis ?

I bought it when it was a "lifetime" offer. I started to developp on it. And then, I just moved to other VPS system. Like for instance Linode.
From France, it's very fast (London). 10 USD / month. You install Ubutu + Apache + Mysql and LiveCode Server. With many tutorials available, it's easy to set up.
You can do it with OVH (France) as well.

And voila !

Sure, if you have zero experience, you will spend a little bit of time. But you will learn. It's fun and useful.

Do some VPS like OVH or Linode provide LiveCode server? or do I have to buy a LiveCode server license and then download and install it to VPS?
Thank you for your help :D

The GPL is a distribution license, so it only comes into play when your app is distributed for others to run on their own computers. Like MySQL and others, you would only need a Commercial license if you're distributing a server app to others to run on their own servers. For running LiveCode Server on your own server, people visiting your site are using the service you're providing but not recieving a copy of your application, so you can use the Community Edition in such cases.

You could also ask RR to move you to a less busy server. I know someone who did that. It worked for a while until that one got busy too.
