Thank you, Jacque! Version 1.0.1 with a fix for device rotation on Android has been released. I needed to get a new Android device so I could do proper testing of the app in the Play Store.

On Android, for the background audio to work correctly a setting on the device needs to be changed to provide unrestricted battery usage for the app. On my new Android it looks like this:



Once that setting change is made, the Android version works just like the iOS version with perfect background audio.

You may have to ask the user to change the default setting for Battery Optimization if Android doesn't ask them by default. I've had several apps that ask me to turn off optimization.

Cinque Ports Radio 1.5.1 (204) for Android has been released in the Google Play Store! This new version contains many improvements over the original release. Built with LiveCode 10.0.0 DP6, the app now supports Lock Screen updates. Live stream is a new more efficient 80k HE-AACv1 with great sound. The app is free and does not collect any user data.

I was sucked in by an error in my code. A typo had the Android version connecting to a 192k mp3 live stream instead of the intended 80k HE-AACv1 live stream. Unfortunately while the current version of Android Background Audio can play stored HE-AAC files (with .m4a suffix), it chokes on live HE-AAC streams from Shoutcast or Icecast (which will be in live ADTS transport stream format with the .aac suffix).

When I discovered the error and tried to fix it, the app freezes up and crashes after attempting to play any live HE-AAC streams from both Shoutcast and Icecast. I'll file a bug report and hope LiveCode can fix it in the next 10.0.0 DP. This is not an issue with my app running in iOS.

Edit: LiveCode has confirmed the bug! Looking forward to when it's fixed.

Also I forgot to mention that version 2.0 (216) of the app was recently approved by Google and is available in the Google Play Store. The new version has dynamic backgrounds that follow colours in the album art!
