Domain vs subdomain

Post by anmldr » Thu Jul 12, 2018 3:01 am

I purchased the lifetime hosting account. However, when I went to set it up, it mentions a "subdomain" name. Does this mean that my web address would be http://anmldr.livecodehosting.com instead of what it is now on another hosting site as a domain rather than http://www.anmldr.com ? If so, I did not know this before purchasing. Should I have?

You can use whatever domains you like with Livecode Hosting, You just need to point your domain's nameservers to the ones used by lovecodehosting.

Linda,

you can register a domain at a domain registrar like freenom.com, godaddy.com or any other.
In your account of the registrar setup to use custom nameservers for the registered domain.

Please use the following ones as the custom nameservers:
ns1.on-rev.com
ns2.on-rev.com
ns3.on-rev.com

After that you can add the domain to your On-Rev account.

Sometimes you have to add the domain first, before you setup the custom nameservers at the registrar.

So either
1. register the domain at the registrar
2. setup the domain to use custom nameserver (in your account at the registrar)
3. add the domain as addon domain to your on-rev account.

or if step 2 fails then
1. register the domain at the registrar
2. add the domain as addon domain to your on-rev account
3. setup the domain to use custom nameserver (in your account at the registrar)

If you want to try first with a free domain you can register a .tk domain at https://freenom.com for free.

Regards,

Matthias

I would be transferring my domain to the LiveCode Hosting server. So, it is already registered at Network Solutions. I was just having buyer's remorse when I misinterpreted that it was just hosting subdomains and not domains.

Thank you,
Linda

Linda,

as Livecodehosting is not acting as a Domain registrar you have to stay with Networksolutions as the registrar. In your Networksolution account you can change the settings for your domain to use custom nameservers.

If Networksolutions is also your webhoster then you have to check with them how you can change you contract from hosting to just domain registration.

Regards,

Matthias
