I don't understand the message app or what the instructor is doing after the app is done. Here's what holds me up:

After the stack is completed, the instructor quickly opens up a "chat client" and shows that his message has been sent there.

But the app has not even been put on a phone yet. Does this work without the app having been installed on a phone?

I can see in the video the address of the chat client he has used in his browser:

http://lc1582.on-rev.com/revchat/

When I go there, I get a page that says

SIMPLE CHAT WITH LIVECODE
Please enter your name LOGIN BUTTON

I enter my name and click and after quite a while I see:

file "/home/lc1582/public_html/index.lc"
file "/home/lc1582/public_html/system/revigniter/RevIgniter.lc"
row 75, col 1: include: could not find file (/home/lc1582/public_html/system/application/config/constants.lc)
file "/home/lc1582/public_html/system/revigniter/Common.lc"

That's it.

I can't access the chat client. I would like to use such such an app to send data to my own webpage, but I'm not having success with this.

How could I us this app to send messages to my personal webpage?

The lesson is easy but I think I'm a little lost.

Thanks,

Tom

It looks like the web server is no longer up to date and is missing some files. If I remember right those lessons are fairly old and it looks like the supporting site hasn't been updated.

I noticed that I couldn't do what the instructor said at the very beginning as he said, "Open this file and that file." And they weren't there. I looked in some old responses from a couple of years back and found that people had the same problem. I learned I had to click the RESOURCES button to get the files and I wondered why the instructor didn't say that first.

I also wondered why a note had not been put on the site saying "Download these files before you begin" because otherwise, everyone(including me years later) would continue have the same problem.

Jacque, do you think I might be working on an outdated site and perhaps there is a new one?

I'll see what the Livecode people say.

I doubt there is a newer one. The project ended rather abruptly if I recall. Asking LC might give you more information.

Have you seen these stacks, they will give you an overview that might be more useful:

Well, if that's true I paid just 75 frog skins for something that ended.

I thought I actually was asking Livecode here with Moderators: heather and Klaus, et al moderating. I'll see if they weigh in on this.

Thanks for responding and for the link.

Hi Tom,

I am just a volunteer here, not working for or at Livecode!

Oh, sorry. I thought you were Jacque. Actually, I did think you were at Livecode as an employee.

Hi Tom,

my general and "not being a lawyer!" thought:
If you paid for something and it does not work, not work as exspected or stops working at some point without notice, you should first complain at the vendor, which is Livecode.com in this case.

So if you did not write a mail to support yet, you definitvely should do now: support@livecode.com
Maybe they are just not aware of these inconveniences.

Best

Klaus,
hep - with it, cool, having or showing knowledge about the newest things in music, fashion, etc., if your in the military it would be a word to mark cadence, but there are lots of other meanings depending on the context.

In this case, you stated your not an employee, and even though they thought they were responding to Jacque, they were saying "I'm cool with that" or "I get it".

Pretty thorough take on it here.

hep (1)
"aware, up-to-date," first recorded 1908 in "Saturday Evening Post," but said to be underworld slang, of unknown origin. Variously said to have been the name of "a fabulous detective who operated in Cincinnati" [Louis E. Jackson and C.R. Hellyer, "A Vocabulary of Criminal Slang," 1914] or a saloonkeeper in Chicago who "never quite understood what was going on ... (but) thought he did" ["American Speech," XVI, 154/1]. Taken up by jazz musicians by 1915. With the rise of hip (adj.) by the 1950s, the use of hep ironically became a clue that the speaker was unaware and not up-to-date.

I've never heard it used to mean someone was UNaware.
I suspected it was jazz-related. It's outdated now. I'm sure the Beatniks used it.
