Unicode and Valentina not working

Does anyone have any experience dealing with accented character issues with Valentina? They don't seem to work. I contacted the developers of the Valentina Database software but they said it's a livecode issue. For example, whenever I try to add or update field with an accented character such as á, é, í, ó, ú, ü - the text is rendered unrecognizable after the update. I've had this for awhile now in Livecode (Revolution) but I was hoping that it might be fixed with the Livecode 7. Am I missing something?
