How to display skinned QT movies in RR apps ?

Post by verlsnake » Thu Feb 05, 2009 5:44 pm

When I want to embed a QT movie into a RR app, I use the 'Quick Time Player' widget; BUT: Skinned QT movies which use non-rectangular shapes are NOT displayed with their skin; they are displayed with a rectangular shape instead ...

The capability to play back skinned QuickTime movies in all their glory could be a crucial differentiator in favor for QuickTime and RR, if I'm not in error.

Hi verlsnake,

The movie skin is a special feature that can be used by the QuickTime player. I don't know of any other software that displays the skin. Why don't you use a --much cooler-- window shape?

Hi Mark !

Unfortunately I am not a very knowledgeable RR guy currently; so I ask this question without further ado: Until now I thought RR window shapes are for a whole app only; so if I have several skinned QT movies in one app and I want them all to be displayed as skinned, can I do that with window shapes somehow ?

Thanks

Kai

Hello Kai,

No, the windowshape is for the stack window, not for the movie only. However, you can create a new window to show just the movie on a nice window shape.

If you want the "skin" to appear in a normal window, why don't you simply show a picture and the movie on top of it?

I have tried out the 'stack windowshape technique'; with bringing the QT player object to the front; with this technique one can really achieve stunning visual results - using blending, too; BUT: The QT movie content is NOT mouse triggerable (e.g. QTVR hotspots) anymore; after removing the stack skin it is mouse triggerable again ... Is there a way to preserve mouse triggerability ?

What do You mean with this ? Do You speak of the so-called poster-movie technique:
- Having the QT movie first show a picture which is linked to the main movie via the HREF attribute
- After clicking on the picture the main movie is played back in the QT Player standalone; which can handle natively skinned QT movies with mouse interactivity preserved

My big problem with this poster-movie technique is:
- Bidirectional communication to a movie played back in the QuickTime Player standalone; which has been invoked by a QuickTime poster movie embedded in a QT player object of a stack

I have dealt with this communication problem with QT movies embedded in web pages; and have not yet found a solution (maybe there is none); perhaps this problem can be tackled for QT movies embedded in RR stacks ?

Try setting the player blending to 1 (instead of 0).

Hi Kai,

do you know about Trevore De Vore's wonderful "Enhanced QuickTime External"?

Maybe this will help you a bit:

Maybe not :-)

Kai,

This is a Revolution bug. Please report it to QCC and lets hope that it gets fixed.

No, I just mean an image object in Revolution with a player object on top of it.
