Re: LiveCode 6.0rc3 on Ubuntu: Experiences

I cannot stand anything that is not a WIMP GUI; all the other ones may be jolly clever and all that, but I know what I like; and XFCE certainly does "it" for me, I know that ohers are keen on MATE and Cinnamon, personally not my cup of tea. XFCE has had a good long time to mature and now resembles G...

Re: POLL: Which Linux distro do you use?

UbuntuStudio 13.04 at home.

Ubuntu 12.04 with both GNOME "fallback" and XFCE 4.10 at work (8 machines).

Re: LiveCode 6.0rc3 on Ubuntu: Experiences

XFCE 4.10 works like a charm.

Re: LiveCode 6.0rc3 on Ubuntu: Experiences

Anything I posted on the Livecode Developer list must have been donkey's ages ago. As I stated above: I have LC 6.0.1 OSS running on a "collection of mixed nuts" with no obvious problems at all. However, this is 6.0.1 and NOT 6.0 rc3, and maybe there's the rub. Howeevr, I have had no problem with 6....

Re: LiveCode 6.0rc3 on Ubuntu: Experiences

"no way to use the 6.0 LiveCode IDE on Ubuntu satisfactorily at this time" that is 100% tripe, and I don't know where you got that idea from. I have Livecode 6.0.1 OSS deployed across 10 machines running: Edubuntu 7.something, Ubuntu 5.10, Ubuntu 12.04, Ubuntu 12.10, Xubuntu 12.10 and UbuntuStudio 1...

Re: Need to Open Protected Hypercard Stack

Try opening the thing with a Hexeditor that will read the data fork as well as the resource fork. That has certainly worked for me in the past. Probably best to use ResEdit: download.info.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/English-North_American/Macintosh/Utilities/ResEdit_2.1.3.sea...

Re: Will LiveCode make all other programming languages obsol

Livecode will never be "the language to end all programming languages" anymore than a spoken language, e.g. English, is ever either "a finished product", or a language that makes all other languages look second class. What Livecode is is a very powerful 4th generation language, which can do an awful...

Re: Idea for Script Editor

HOWEVER . . . it would still be really nice in the ScriptEditor as I am not sure how many people
are going to use the Project Browser on a regular basis.

Turning on thumbnails in Preferences for the new Project Browser effectively serves the same purpose, and is very good indeed.

Re: Hyperstudio to Livecode

http://www.mackiev.com/hyperstudio/reviews/nzmac.html "For example, HyperLogo, a scripting language that could be used within previous versions is not present." So, version 5, if I read things aright, has gone all kiddified drag-n-drop, and while being all colourful and sexy is not really much good ...

Re: Hyperstudio to Livecode

That sounds fairly messy. As far as I understand HyperStudio's underlying language is a LISP variant, while Livecode's inderlying language has been called many things but is basically an xTalk variant. This would mean that any translator would have to chew its way through whole chunks of language ra...

Re: Ipad text editor that "knows" LiveCode

I have a feeling that the Apple App store "went all funny" about both Livecode and Livecode standalones, so the fault of RunRev not having developed an iPad version of Livecode (yet) lies with
Apple and not with them.
