Re: Would you fund a campaign for a better livecode website?

Pictures of "pretty" teenage girls at some high school in Edinburgh does NOT let anyone know what a bloody marvellous entry language LiveCode is There are lots of languages that could give people a leg up though. I think LiveCode is relatively easy to learn too. But, Python, C#, LIberty Basic, Pure...

Re: Would you fund a campaign for a better livecode website?

No, of course not. To my knowledge, they are a for profit business. A website is part of doing business, especially when your distribution is totally based on the website. Having a better website will result in more business for them. Do they not have business people running this company? They need ...

Re: A small PR rant

This morning I suddenly had an urge to go and eat some dark chocolate; and why, forbye? I can no more explain that than you can: but, I'll tell you something; it tasted wonderful. 8) LOL. I miss chocolate. I've been Keto for 2 years (down 90lbs) and I still miss it. I'll get some at Thanksgiving (l...

Re: A small PR rant

Yes, AirBNB was way more impacted. I worked in the travel industry (travel insurance) for 10 years. The cash flow practically stopped.

Re: A small PR rant

Good morning Richard (at least on East Coast US). I brought up that the need for funding was not logical on the surface, in this very thread. The blog changed the messaging on for the fundraiser from needing to continue development and retain employees to needing to help those who cannot afford to r...

Re: A small PR rant

LC posted a blog. I find it interesting that after the discussion here that it is now “not about us”. It doesn’t matter as they can run the business as they see fit but it is interesting that the tone is different after some of us have pointed out that this kind of thing is not common for businesses.

Re: Equivalent of classes in LiveCode

Welcome. First, I encourage the more experienced LiveCode Coders to chime in on my post to correct any mistakes. LiveCode is a bit different than your traditional OO language. I don't think of it has an OO language. The closest thing I can come up with is it is an event oriented language as events d...

Re: Copying variable values to clipboard

Thanks folks. Not sure why you have to enable an additional edit action, instead of just making it eligible to copy right off though.

Copying variable values to clipboard

Hi Folks. When debugging, is there some way to copy the value stored when you break or step through code? I can see the value in the watch tab (or whatever the official name is) but you cannot highlight and copy it. I can think of some ways to get around it such as putting a text box and populate bu...

Re: A small PR rant

"Xojo was raised as an example, and it's a good comparison in this respect: while they offer "mobile", at this time that's iOS; the other 80% of the world using Android is informed "coming soon". I don't doubt that company's good intentions, and overall they seem to do pretty good work, but since "c...

Re: A small PR rant

Thanks for your response Richmond. 1. "LiveCode doesn’t feel very professional" . . . "I always wonder exactly HOW one defines professional, and I feel a claim like this should backed up with some points of comparison." Perhaps a better way to describe it would be a lack of "polish". There are a lot...

Re: A small PR rant

I have to agree with the OP and AndyP. Generally speaking, LiveCode doesn’t feel very professional, either on their website or even the product itself. Now, don’t go slamming, I chose LiveCode for a project this year and paid for it even though these are tools only for internal use in my business. T...

If you ever wonder what an object's base is, you can always do something like this to find out...
aPic_namesAndSuch.png
... or just look at the titlebar of the property inspector...
aPic_namesAndSuch2.png
...and all mystery should be resolved :D
Nice trick. Still seems strange to me.

The combobox is a subclass of button - add the object type to the reference and you should be good:

Code: Select all

if the label of button "cboFreight" is empty
Thanks. I’ll give it a try. A combo as a button. Not exactly logical.
