Re: Block coding

It is also interesting to note that SCRATCH avoids making some of the larger claims that have been made for block-coding: "Your students can use Scratch to code their own interactive stories, animations, and games. In the process, they learn to think creatively, reason systematically, and work colla...

Block coding

Is something I don't like very much, and as a teacher believe it slows down uptake of more traditional forms of programming in children. Notwithstanding this, a lot of teacher and educational experts do not agree with me, and their experience is generally more xtensive than mine. I have been "fiddli...

Re: Baby stuff

While this may, indeed, be "baby stuff", LiveCode should wake up and realise that all around the worl children both in classrooms and at home both want to and are required to program "baby stuff" and are doing so using other methods than LiveCode because LiveCode is not doing anything whatsoever to ...

Re: Can the void space within a group be made "Clickable"?

I am going to avoid answering your question.

You may hate me for this suggestion . . . 8)

Just ungroup the group:

That's the image of your group on the right, and that's my re-creation of everything on the left
that is NOT grouped.

Re: Stencyl

If each of us tends to our own opportunities The "only" problem is that my 'opportunity' lies largely in Education, and I spend most of my time with LiveCode running up in-house stuff for which I get no direct financial return . . . I could run my school perfectly well, never turning a computer on,...

Re: Stencyl

This is where LC could shine
But the fact is it doesn't.

Could that possibly be down to the lack-lustre approach to getting it into schools?

Re: Quit disabled in menu

AS you are the person who has a problem building standalones
I am beginning to think that:

1. Your computer has been "poisoned" by something, or

2. Another application you have on your machine is mucking LiveCode up.

That is what I meant, not that such a thing has no value, rather that it cannot do all that much in terms of creating functional applications.
Aha: but you'd put a comma in the wrong place. 8)

Re: Stencyl

The thing that fusses me is the implication that one can achieve what one achieves after years of learning programming languages by dragging a few funny shapes around. This is not possible. What is possible is an extremely small subset of what one can achieve after years of learning programming lang...

Visual programming is a thing. Assembly programming is also a thing. And there are many things in between.

No single one of them is best for all tasks. Each brings something uniquely useful to the table.

Even LiveCode.
A stunningly brilliant observation.
