Re: Creating forum/comment web pages using Livecode

Hi,

Thank you for your comments; I have decided to heed the advice and look for a solution that is already available as creating my own is a much more challenging task than I first anticipated.

best wishes

Simon

Re: Creating forum/comment web pages using Livecode

Hi, Thanks for the steer. I think it may have been this thread : https://forums.livecode.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=28420&p=149059#p149059 Its not quite what I was asking about but it does describe an interesting idea which could be used to bypass HTML altogether although I do suspect that getting it t...

Creating forum/comment web pages using Livecode

Hi, While I have used Livecode for years I have no experience of using it with the internet running on a server. So please be gentle! I have decided to create a web site and I would like to offer viewers the ability to add their own comments. I have a simple web design tool called RapidWeaver that a...

Re: Unexpected result when calling a handler in a group script

Simple - as you wrote "I think there is something screwy...." I've updated my example stack (attached) and posted a bug report No. 21630 https://quality.livecode.com/show_bug.cgi?id=21630 The updated stack shows that the "feature" is not limited to groups; it also occurs with cards and I suspect oth...

Re: Unexpected result when calling a handler in a group script

I was under the impression that the message path is the path that a message takes automatically, whereas dispatch and send are commands that allow a message to be directed to a specific control bypassing the default message path and entering/following a new path starting with the specified control. ...

Re: Unexpected result when calling a handler in a group script

The wording about dispatch and the message path is confusing (to me?). In this case the message does get actioned but for some reason the code fails to read the field. My interpretation of the dictionary about groups is that they sit outside the message path unless they are background groups.

Re: Unexpected result when calling a handler in a group script

Fair point but changing the name to tFirst makes no difference.

Unexpected result when calling a handler in a group script

I have created a simple group that comprises two fields and a handler in the group. When called the handler returns the value in the field. Well that was the plan. The handler is called using the dispatch command. The code in the group script reads data from the field "Destination" which is part of ...

Re: Rewriting a Java Script Function

My first version will be based on the source Java Script function. I expect that the Livecode version will be slow because of all the calculations that are being conducted. However, my second version will move the setting of the variables that do not rely on the Lat Long passed to a set up function ...

Re: Rewriting a Java Script Function

Hi Al, Yes. Although I am only converting the function that converts latitude and longitude to UTM coordinates: /** * Converts latitude/longitude to UTM coordinate. * * Implements Karney’s method, using Krüger series to order n^6, giving results accurate to 5nm for * distances up to 3900km from the ...

Rewriting a Java Script Function

Hi, I realise that I'm well off topic but I suspect that many live coders have tried other languages so I'll ask. I am rewriting a function that converts a position in latitude and longitude into a UTM reference. It should just be straight forward maths but as I have never really used languages such...

Re: relative image paths and custom controls

Hi,

Just wanted to say a big thanks to Bernd for the two lines of code quoted above. Originally I failed to discover the syntax that allowed the line to specify exactly which image to use.

Code: Select all

....to the short id of image "greenRound" of me

Re: relative image paths and custom controls

Hi Richard, Thanks for the link. I had seen the thread and have visited Ken's web site. However, the thread is dated 2011 and the community does not seem to have embraced the concept, or at least don't seem to be talking about it, which is a pity. I think that encapsulation of custom controls should...

Re: relative image paths and custom controls

Bump! Having just started to create some custom controls and not wishing to go down the Live Code Builder route did this discussion lead anywhere? Basically we need a custom control repository, a drag and drop tool palette and inclusion in standalones. To make control development part of people's wo...

Re: How to delete the selected text

When applying this excellent tip in LC 9 I had to specify that the items were the subject of the sort e.g.

Code: Select all

put the hilitedLines of field "FullList" into tLines
   sort items of tLines descending
repeat for each item tLine in tLines
delete line tLine of field "FullList"
   end repeat
