Re: Template script for DataGrid

Hi guylouis: 1. The structure of Data grid is complicated. The option menu button you put in a column of a DG is inside a nested stream of groups. The long name of one of the buttons in the column, e.g., is button "Option Menu" of group "MyColumnName 0001" of group "MyColumnName" of group "dgList" o...

Re: Shadow App that ruined Iowa Caucuses

... But hardly "ruined". Democracy (unlike authoritarianism) only works on mutual agreement. A big part of it is the confidence we have in the institutions: social and political. This confidence has been steadily eroded in recent times -- some of it the deliberate doing of bad actors, some due to r...

Shadow App that ruined Iowa Caucuses

Can anyone explain what exactly went wrong with the app? I remember ObamaCare's launch was messed up by the digital company (Canadian?) that built and managed the website. A lot of sloppy professionals in the business or the inevitable result of increasing complexity of the digital universe? Thanks,...

Yep, that's why we can also script (more function-like):...........
Sure, yes, but that would lose the English-like syntax ...
(that was my point -- to be able to use the natural language form, but keep an eye open for the potholes!).

Re: Replace LiveCode Script with JavaScript, forever

"The english language, use it to write code." The motive at the core of LC. As a hobbyist, this is the way I program in LC. I (literally) speak out aloud what I want the 'computer' to do. Then I realize, to my pleasant surprise, that it needs only minor changes to turn it into working LC code! When...

Re: What controls the space between lines in a field?

Craig: Yes, I see that! I realized the effort to make LC script more English-like and forgiving of loose syntax has created some pitfalls for non-experts like me. For example, the selectedText of field "MyField" is a function, not a property! I have been tripped up by such "oddities" more than once!...

Re: What controls the space between lines in a field?

Craig: This is interesting! Your code works. In fact, setting it to empty with set the textSize of char 1 to (the length of fld 1) of fld 1 to empty solved the problem, and the text "inherited" the textSize of the field (which itself is empty, and inherits, I presume, from the system). This means so...

Re: What controls the space between lines in a field?

Are you setting the font size of the field object, or the text within it? Never realized the distinction! I set the textSize of the field with either set the textSize of selObj() to 14 or set the textSize of field "MyField" to 14 When I try set the textSize of the text of field "MyField" to 14 I ge...
