Re: Setting Path$ environmental variable

Hi Mark, Thank you again for your reply. Unfortunately while the value in $PATH was the cause of an initial problem I have now discovered that I am unable to send any arguments. For example Shell("ls") works fine but Shell("ls -l") fails and reports zsh: command not found: ls -l The command shell("e...

Re: Setting Path$ environmental variable

I have read the the text file etc/paths holds the $PATH values. Mine has the following

Code: Select all

/usr/local/bin
/usr/bin
/bin
/usr/sbin
/sbin
so I do not know why I keep seeing the No such file or folder warning.

Setting Path$ environmental variable

Hi, The background to this question is that I am attempting to call exiftool from my Livecode stack. My commands work when used in the Apple Terminal but an error of "No such file or directory" is posted when the same command is called using the shell command in my Livecode application. Using the wh...

Re: Save data using URL command mangles bit values

Mark, Thanks for taking the time to write your response and to offer to look at my stack. I have created an archive file that includes an image file which means that it is to large to fit in the forum. If all is well it should be available on this link https://www.dropbox.com/s/pjdi0l9gys1623r/For-M...

Writing metadata into image file.

Hi, As I'm sure you know image files often have a large amount of meta data associated with them. With the advent of the raw image this metadata along with processing data has been stored in so called sidecar files which are normally small text files. The most well known is Adobe's xmp file which I ...

Re: Save data using URL command mangles bit values

Yes it works - thanks. What I find confusing is why or how does using NumtoByte stop the engine from stripping these values ? I can understand that the engine looks at a stream of bytes and checks to see if they are within normal printable ASCII character values meaning that it sees the strange non ...

Save data using URL command mangles bit values

Hi, I have some code that attempts to create a valid xmp sidecar file. These files are used to store metadata about images and other media files. A xmp file is a form of xml so is mostly text. However there is an exception in the first line which includes three high value characters. <?xpacket begin...

Re: Removing Nulls from strings

As the null is nothing I wonder what is going to be replaced. That will be the character ASCII 00. For Example Olympus and some other cameras terminate the text string which stores the makers name in their raw files with a null character. Initially my code attempted to use the extracted name in a f...

Re: Unexpected newline character in filename - a summary

# Richard: Thanks for your post and sorry for the delay in reading it ; I've managed to hurt my back which prevents me sitting at a computer for the time being and making this post is an experiment. I think I fell into the trap of "Livecode will sort it out" when the truth is that interfacing with t...

Unexpected newline character in filename - a summary

Hi, In this three page forum post the issue under discussion drifted off topic into newline characters appearing in file names. I believe that the information is of wider interest but is difficult to find in the thread : https://forums.livecode.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=36927&start=30. So here is a su...

Re: Removing Nulls from strings

Pirate King of Plovdiv would make a great forum name! I agree that you should not have to deal with that sort of crap but as you said "they" exist everywhere. Good luck with the twelve you are teaching. We have a friend who is expecting two sisters with children in about a weeks time UK border forc...

Re: Removing Nulls from strings

got badly bogged down sorting out things with some Ukrainian refugees' children last weekend. Ouch! Sorry to here that you were having problems - strange how people bite the hand that feeds them. What age is the father? I thought they were suppose to remain in Ukraine and fight if they were between...

Re: Removing Nulls from strings

# Stam, Unfortunately while your code is quite correct there is no simple method of feeding it data. The problem is how do you get it a list of filenames that include the newline character ? It cannot be achieved using Livecode Files as this uses the newline character as the item separator. This is ...
