Re: Tools Palette likes to disappear
There is some discussion of this issue in this thread: http://forums.livecode.com/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=31398 I run Antergos (based on Arch) with Plasma and have this problem. It happens on every distro I've tested with Plasma. There are worse problems on some (but not all) distros running Xfce, incl...

Re: How to install Livecode on the last Linux versions
Also, this should only affect the installer if you are installing for "ALL users", in /opt, should it not? Yes, as mentioned above - Another thing to note here is that if you are installing Lc for only you.. Sorry! I read most of the thread, including *most* of your post you quoted here, but skippe...

Re: How to install Livecode on the last Linux versions
Whether or not gksu is removed depends on which distro you're talking about. This is not, as of yet, a universal decision. Of course, where it affects officially supported distros, something needs to happen. Whether it be removing the "All users" option or implementing it another way. Also, this sho...

Re: What is the best DE for using Livecode with Ubuntu 18.04?
I tried this - backdrop "on" - on my Antergos/KDE computer and in the VM running Fedora 28/KDE (the Fedora/KDE spin). It mostly works. It seems that the tools palette still can be made to disappear when opening a property inspector but once the tools palette is brought back, things seem to behave no...

Re: What is the best DE for using Livecode with Ubuntu 18.04?
Richard, the release notes list supported distros without reference to desktop environment. Those distros all make a variety of DEs available for use in the mainstream release that Livecode officially supports, including KDE. I can understand that having a variety of DEs and a variety of window mana...

Re: What is the best DE for using Livecode with Ubuntu 18.04?
I think there is a problem with KDE and LC 9.0. I have the same experience with the tools palette (it seems this is what you are talking about when you say "tool bar") and sometimes certain ancillary windows. It can be caused here by opening an inspector. It gets more entertaining when opening the m...

Re: Unable to install LC 9 on Ubuntu 18.04
I'm not sure the OP was trying to post FUD, it seems a relatively common post for anyone either new to linux or Lc in general, and even some old(er) timers, and I've seen (and answered) a number of posts just like it as have many others. I'm far more interested in the problem he posed, and whether ...

Re: Unable to install LC 9 on Ubuntu 18.04
During installation, the installer correctly stated that if installing for all users, admin privileges would be required, but then did not put up the dialog asking for the password as has been the case in the past. Using 'sudo' at the start of the installation resolved this, but should not be requi...

openSUSE Leap 42.3, unsupported but WORKS!
Leap 42.3, the newest version of openSUSE's traditional "regular-release" distro, has been released. A quick test of LiveCode 8.1.5 and 9.0-dp6 reveals no OS related problems running LiveCode under this distro/version. I installed Leap with a KDE Plasma desktop, using the openSUSE installer defaults...

right-click contextual menu works as expected here in LC 8.1.3 under openSUSE Tumbleweed.

Re: which distro?
My everyday system runs openSUSE Tumbleweed. LiveCode works very well, including the dictionary. The only issue I have is the Start Center closes by itself when I launch LiveCode but it opens from the menu and works fine after that. I have recently tested several other "unsupported" distros and post...

Re: ANN: New dictionary
Max, I don't want to hijack your thread here, but regardless of whatever problems you are finding in LC8+, "the dictionary doesn't work under Linux" is not a euphemism for anything. It's a blunt declaration which happens to be logically false. If you were to say it isn't working in some distros or i...

Re: ANN: New dictionary
Max, this is excellent work and I salute your efforts, but I object very strongly to you saying "Livecode 8 dictionary doesn't work on Linux..." This is absolutely not correct and creates a false impression for people who may be wondering about Linux support. Yes, it is known the dictionary is not c...

Re: Open process
Would it work to use the '-progress url' option and monitor the resultant file? From the ffmpeg manpages: Send program-friendly progress information to url. Progress information is written approximately every second and at the end of the encoding process. It is made of "key=value" lines. key consist...

Re: Unsupported, but does it work? openSUSE
Just a quick update to say openSUSE Leap 42.2 Beta 2 is out and seems to play nicely with LiveCode 8.1, so it's still looking hopeful that LiveCode will function well with the next version of Leap when it's released in November 2016.
