Re: Mark menu item as checked

Bullets can be added to menu items by preceding the item text with "!r" (radio, reflecting the original usage as spec'd in OSes that support it). If we add a command to set the checkmark, ideally it would also set the radio bullet as well. It would be nice to also add support for a dash, used to ind...

Re: "Click at the loc of...." thingie

Clicking at the loc of an object triggers the object's click response, but does not affect where the user has chosen to place the cursor. I use it most often in response to keyboard shortcuts, so that the button highlight helps cognitively reinforce the primary action the shortcut triggers. Personal...

When was it ever present
Maybe never.

It would be interesting to know if it was ever implemented in MetaCard.
The LiveCode engine is the MetaCard engine, updated and expanded.

I don't believe any version of this engine supported that HyperCard syntax.

Re: Mark menu item as checked

Had the way things were done in HyperCard card not been removed... When was it ever present in LiveCode? Of all the xTalk dialects I've used, I've never seen any of them claim to be a true superset of HyperTalk. Each has at least least some HyperTalk syntax implemented differently or not at all. To...

Re: Livecode on chromebook

Chromebooks run ChromeOS, which runs Android apps. So you can deploy to ChromeOS but not the the IDE there. You can run the LC IDE on a Linux system provided it's running an Intel-compatible CPU. FWIW I bought the HP Stream 11 G4 EE and it runs Ubuntu very well, and LiveCode too. It's not a powerhou...

Re: How to stop Answer Dialog from displaying "answer dialog" ?

Putting the rubber on the road, I spent just a moment searching the bug DB for this. I found it was reported a while back, and tickled the report with an update that included a link to this thread.

Re: How to stop Answer Dialog from displaying "answer dialog" ?

This conversation is fun, but is anyone interested in filing a bug report so this can be fixed? If no one else will I can do it.

Re: Using external script only stack as behaviour

Just as an additional remark. If I remember right there was last year a post by Mark Waddingham who said it was never intended to use "set the behaviour" to anything else than to a button. And that this may be restricted to buttons in future versions. That was true, but before the addition of scrip...

Re: How to stop Answer Dialog from displaying "answer dialog" ?

I see "answer dialog" very briefly on Windows, but nowhere near 1/2 second, maybe a tick or two. In some cases it's so quick it's not noticeable. On all platforms the window title is set in the answer dialog's preOpenStack handler. This implies that this is an engine issue, and that it should be rep...

Re: How to improve accuracy of GPS and GNSS

A quick review of search results from DuckDuckGo suggests the accuracy of commercial-grade GPS is currently limited to a few meters.

I would imagine that could be refined with triangulation from local sensors, but that would require additional site-specific hardware and much custom coding.

Re: Annoying ++

The showInvisibles property is for controls, not files. See the Dictionary entry: https://livecode.com/resources/api/#livecode_script/showinvisibles The .DS_Store file is created dynamically by the Finder to store folder-specific view preferences, such as whether list or icon mode, column widths for...

Re: How to choose between small file size and simpler code?

In 20 years with LC I've never worried too much about script size. And that includes a great many stacks delivered to the app dynamically over HTTP at runtime. Even fat code is lean compared to a single image file. If you're delivering a standalone, the engine is ~16MB by itself, so once it's bound ...

Re: Possible to easily assign lists to variables & vice-versa?

FWIW phrases like "grow up" and presumptions of fear over things already clearly identified as mere personal preference do not reflect well in our community. We strive to create a welcoming environment for everyone earnestly interested in getting the most out of LiveCode. Forum posts are rarely edit...

Re: Possible to easily assign lists to variables & vice-versa?

I still don't see how that's relevant. As I posted, I want to created a list of a bunch of tab-delimited variables, not put a string containing tabs into a variable. Yes, I was also surprised at your recent interest in string concatenation here, given the very different original problem described a...

FourthWorld, I looked up the format function, but I don't see how it's relevant.
With concatenation:

Code: Select all

   put "Dave" &tab& "46" &tab& "sr. engineer" &tab& "colorado" &tab& "23" into tVar
With the format function:

Code: Select all

   put format("Dave\t46\tsr. engineer\tcolorado\t23") into tVar
