Re: Vexing inconsistent problem with click location. Crazy!!

All the advice and support is appreciated Jacque wrote: The preference file is here: /Users/<your name>/Library/Preferences/RunRev/livecode7.rev It won't hurt to delete it and restart LC, which will make a new default prefs file on launch. Re: Vexing inconsistent problem with click location. Crazy!!

How did you arrive at that conclusion?
The issue only affected liveCode.

I made a new user account. The issue went away. Same test stack, same machine, same everything, but different user account.

I'm not a computer pro. Maybe I deduced incorrectly.

Re: Vexing inconsistent problem with click location. Crazy!!

There seems to be an incorrect preferences file somewhere in my user library that affects the display of LiveCode, but no other application, on my primary display, but not on an external monitor. It probably got corrupted because I used an external monitor. I imagine it's possible to deduce what tha...

Re: Vexing inconsistent problem with click location. Crazy!!

Hi Klaus, The "welcome back" is appreciated. Over the years this forum has had a family feel, at times. I've enjoyed it. It seems less active now. Have LC enthusiasts been migrating to other cross-platform, rapid application development runtime systems? However, in Malta, you met some other lucky Ti...

Re: Vexing inconsistent problem with click location. Crazy!!

I finally fixed the issue! Sort of... Reinstalling the OS didn't help. But then I made a new user account on the same machine. That fixes it. at least with respect to the display in my laptop. I wish I'd thought of that sooner! At least I won't have to buy a new machine now. Craig wrote: Just to be ...

Re: Vexing inconsistent problem with click location. Crazy!!

My investigations so far: -- Confirmed the same issue occurs whether I make a brand new test stack with Indy or Community -- Deleted LC Community, along with its preferences, downloaded and installed a fresh copy made a brand new test stack. Same issue -- Downloaded the Hangman stack from the sample...

Re: Vexing inconsistent problem with click location. Crazy!!

Thanks very much, Richard and Jacque, Jacque wrote: Are they all clones of each other? No, the current test stack is a brand new stack, made from scratch. No other stacks in use. What happens if you download someone else's stack from the Sample Stacks in the top toolbar? That is an excellent questio...

Re: How do you set the angle of a line graphic?

I guess you could calculate the slope of your line from the coordinates for the two ends of your line.

Or if you knew the slope you wanted, and the coordinates of one end of your line, you could calculate the coordinates of the other end.

Many thanks to Craig and Jacque. Jacque wrote: Did you also check the Monitors control panel to see how many monitors it shows? Re: Can't post a request for assistance

Thank you, Richard, I infer that my post was 11 lines too long. The erroneous error message (that's meta, isn't it?) accused me of posting 11 external links, images, etc., though my message did not contain any. By trial and error, I previewed shorter and shorter versions of my post. The alleged numb...

Re: Can't post a request for assistance

Thanks for the kind replies, Craig and Klaus.

The board throws a misleading error message and refuses to accept my post, if it's too long.

Is this forum still the best place for people like me to get LC assistance?

Re: Vexing inconsistent problem with click location. Crazy!!

Hi Craig, I did the test you suggested with a bare stack, just one button. The loc of the button is 199,20. When the cursor hovers over the button, the location of the cursor is 190,-77, give or take. (This is with the external monitor un-plugged, see below.) Good thought about the other monitor. I ...

Vexing inconsistent problem with click location. Crazy!!

This might be a well-known LC bug. If so, sorry for the inconvenience. I don't remember how to search for known LC bugs. I'm starting to suspect my copy of LC is corrupted, though it seems strange that both Indy and Community would get corrupted at the same time (see below). Over the years, I've not...

Can't post a request for assistance

Edit: These forums are not as busy as they used to be. Is there a new and different way to ask for help? Second edit: Never mind. I found a work-around and I was able to post my question. It's possible the alert in red type just meant my post was 11 lines too long. Not very user friendly! **********...
