Mac 64-bit standalone

Post by richmond62 » Sun May 12, 2019 5:27 pm

In the standalone builder (LC 9.0.3) there is an option to build a 64-bit standalone for Macintosh.

I selected it, as well as the 32-bit standalone option.

I ended up with one Mac standalone that seemed fatter than previous 32-bit builds.

Does this mean that LC 9.0.3 does NOT produce a 32-bit and a 64-bit standalone, but a "thing"
containing both 32-bit and 64-bit code?

Correct, you get a “fat” app that contains both versions.

I ran foul of "fat" apps several times when transferring from MacOS 7.1 68k to MacOS 8 PPC,
from MacOS 9 to MacOS 10.0, and from PPC to Intel.

I wonder if MacOS 10.15 won't "throw a bluey" at a "fat" app?

If I deselect 32-bit will I get a 64-bit-only standalone?

Yes. There is a utility called “lipo” that removes the extra code (it is what the builder does).
