Potential Community License Addition?

Post by ClipArtGuy » Thu Mar 29, 2018 6:02 pm

To my knowledge, users of the community edition of LiveCode are unable to produce iOS apps due to incompatibility with the GPL license. I recently have been checking out the 'signal' project, which is also is licensed under the GPL, but has this added permission :
Copyright 2015-2016 Open Whisper Systems

Licensed under the GPLv3: http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-3.0.html

Additional Permissions For Submission to Apple App Store: Provided that you are otherwise in compliance with the GPLv3 for each covered work you convey (including without limitation making the Corresponding Source available in compliance with Section 6 of the GPLv3), Open Whisper Systems also grants you the additional permission to convey through the Apple App Store non-source executable versions of the Program as incorporated into each applicable covered work as Executable Versions only under the Mozilla Public License version 2.0 (https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/MPL/2.0/)."
Considering that there are already exceptions for RevBrowser and OpenSSL in the LiveCode Community License, I was curious if such an additional permission could be added. It seems like it could be a good way to grow the community with new developers, who then become potential indy/business customers after becoming familiar LiveCode. I am definitely not an expert on software licensing, so I could be missing something, but I thought it was interesting enough to put the suggestion out there.
