The chosen folder is not a valid Android SDK....

Post by sumpm1 » Tue May 21, 2013 4:32 am

Using LiveCode Community Ed 6.0.1, and Android SDK Manager rev22. I installed Android 2.2 API 8.

And I get the error listed in that tutorial: "The chosen folder is not a valid Android SDK. Please ensure you have installed it correctly, and enabled support for Android 2.2 (Froyo)."

I used the folder: "...\adt-bundle-windows-x86-20130514\adt-bundle-windows-x86-20130514\sdk"

Help me out here please. I have spent 3 days trying to get this going.

There is a problem being talked about on the dev list with Android SDK Manager Revision 22
You are doing the correct thing with installing Android 2.2 API 8

I'm running Revision 21.1 and it's working for me. Don't know if you can find that somewhere.

Here is a link to the last version I downloaded and installed:
http://dl.google.com/android/installer_ ... indows.exe

I think it upgrades to 21.1 (I hope not 22!)

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You... This fixed it for me.

I downloaded this installer above, installed Android 2.2 API 8, and DID NOT UPDATE the "Android SDK Tools" Package, which would update to rev22, which is where we are having the problem. You can see that at the top of the screenshot.

Glad it worked out for you :)

Simon

EDIT: Mine has never request an upgrade past 21.1...
EDIT 2: ooops I see it is available.
EDIT 3: This is for Windows, if the problem is in Mac as well, maybe someone could post a link to a working version of the SDK.

http://dl.google.com/android/android-sd ... macosx.zip

it is live anyway.

just in case the forum chews it
dl.google.com/android/android-sdk_r20.0.3-macosx.zip

Success report: I used the link provided by SimpleLife on 5/27 to download the old Mac SDK, deleted the newer SDK that I'd installed, and was able to get LiveCode to successfully recognize the Android SDK on my Mac running Mountain Lion.

Thanks SimpleLife!

This solution also worked for me as I had the same problem. My question is, what sorts of security issues might we encounter by running an out-of-date framework?

I had the same exact problem as everyone else - thankfully Google Indexes this forum and lead me to this thread - yay!!

But yes I agree - I don't like this whole business of LiveCode using such out of date Frameworks and also don't like having to use external software to install the files it needs to work with android.

RunRev can't ensure LiveCode will work correctly if they're not including the files needed to make the system work fully.

If all it takes is for Google to issue a simple update to the Android SDK to break the entire system then it's not a very resilient system. Ideally I'd want to see LiveCode in Windows 7 as a Portable App where every single file you need to make the system work runs under a folder you can run from any drive, backup easily and transfer easily to a laptop so you can take your work on the road.

Anyway thank you guys so much for finding the solution

Don't forget if you try the files of user Simplelife above, to also get the 2.2 Android version with Android tool. Now it seems to work.
I have it in a seperate Android SDK folder, next to my 'other' Android SDK folder that is used by Appcelerator. Why this is happening I don't know. Cheers.

Dear all, has anybody been able to fix this for Linux, more specifically Ubuntu 14.04? The link posted above only lists Windows ...
