Externals SDK

Post by Kevin » Mon Jan 09, 2012 9:23 pm

I received the e-mail response below today from Runtime Revolution support. The question was requarding AF_UNIX sockets support for the Android platform. I am excited since I was unaware that a external API existed for the Android platform. Also I have written externals for Linux and Win32 on prior occasions successfully. However, I am unable to located any information for Android platform at the URL given below or by searching runrev.com. It would be appreciated if someone could point me to the externals SDK and documentation for the Android platform.

Many thanks,
Kevin

Dear Kevin Wood,

Thank you for your request.

LiveCode does not handle sockets this way. There is a possibility that this can be
done using externals. Please take a look at this link for more details.

More likely just that the iOS API is more similar to the OS X API they already support with their desktop engine for OS X than Android is to anything else they make, and that their iOS engine had about a year's head start over the Android version. Given Android's market share dominance you can rest assured that RunRev is working hard to bring that engine to parity with iOS ASAP.

I am sure of that. But what asap means...
More and more of my customers ask for both version ios AND android.

And I don't want to go to nsbasic or sancha, or else...
It would be nice to get an updated roadmap.

Thanks, for the replies they are appreciated. I have confirmed with Runtime Revolution that there is currently no support for externals on the Android platform (see e-mail below). My hope is since Katrhik Sukumaran definition of next few months as few is more and a couple it is 3 months. :))

Thank you for your request.

Our priority in the coming months is to bring Android up to feature parity with iOS. We don't have a detailed timeline for this but you can expect to see features being added over the next few months.

Regards,

Karthik Sukumaran
