Glad to See the Forums

Post by revdan » Sat Apr 08, 2006 6:02 am

As many of you know, I'm a longtime advocate of forums as a more effective means of communicating than email lists, so I'm glad to see RunRev launch these forums.

I plan to check in multiple times per day and although I doubt it will ever replace the user list, maybe it will find a way to help the total communication process among Revolutionaries.

The Revolution is ON!

At least with the forum, all the ego-chatter can be avoided by those who
don't want or need to deal with it.

People who need help can find it much easier here, and the egonauts can
still chit chat and such, or stay on the mailing list and continue to reflect
on days gone by or something like that.

And maybe, just maybe, Garrett will stay out of trouble here ;-)
I'm sure I'll still find a way to get into trouble

It's a win win situation for all.

But I do have one question for any Rev Personnel.... Are you going to be
pruning the forums? If so, have you thought about setting up a way
archive posts and replies before they get pruned? Not that it's of major
importance, but like the mailing list, it would be quite handy to have the
info available for searching at a later date. If not pruning... Umm, well...
Carry on then. :-)

Garrett, this is only a forum, not a magic wand!

Your point on archiving is worthy of discussion and development, it seems to me. I'd like to see something like the Conference summaries, or Essential Tips extracted by very well-paid editors, like... well... maybe... you know, if I had the time....

I am so glad they finally created a forum site for RunRev.

The will be able to add various features as needed. I think this will prove a far superior method of interaction.

One thing we need is some capacity to see a list of all recent posts, no matter which forum it was posted in. I have seen this on other forum sites, so I know it is doable.

This is already there :). Log in. Click on the Revolution Forums icon to go to the entry page. Click on "View posts since last visit" at the top right of the page (just above the box with the list of forums)

Jonathan: That feature is here!

On the index page, towards the top at the right, you see three links:

It would be nice to have the option to see all recent posts, which is slightly different than seeing new posts since last login.

More positive feedback from here. Glad to see the Rev forums up and glad to see they look so well set out. :)

I wonder if all the email list archives can be imported into here as a resource... probably too big a job.

Anyway, well done RunRev!

Note that I had made an effort to extract most of the snippets published on the mailing list over the last 5 months and put it on a codecms. Thanks to this forum, I won't have to spend +5 hours a week on this anymore :D.
