Virginia/DC area LiveCoders?

Post by openworld » Fri Oct 22, 2010 6:57 pm

Hi all,

I'm glad to find LiveCode after using Supercard/Oracle Media Objects years ago.

I'm now living in the Shenandoah Valley, about two hours from DC, and would like to know if there are any Revolution Users Groups or meetups.

Look forward to hearing!

Hey Mark - good to see you here!

Too bad you're not in So.Cal - our local LiveCode user group has meetings almost monthly; we had a good one just last night.

Hopefully you can turn up a few locals there and get one going.

Mark,
I'm about 3 hours north of DC, add me to the bin, maybe we can reach critical mass.

Richard,

It's a delight to reconnect! Are you in the LA or San Diego area? I'd love to say thanks over a lunch for the insights you generously shared in the Supercard golden age...

If I'm not overdrawing on your wellsprings of generosity, can I ask you for any ideas on the Livecode/web browser issues in these threads?

- http://forums.runrev.com/phpBB2/viewtop ... 703#p27214 (revBrowser page not visible)

- http://forums.runrev.com/phpBB2/viewtop ... 945#p27216 (drag and drop from Twitter)

If I can get over this hurdle, I hope to develop a freeware or shareware app for members of trustnets along the following lines: http://j.mp/bQn4jt ...

Look forward to next communications!

Best,

Mark

It would be great to get together. I work in LA and live in Pasadena. IMO the restaurants in Pasadena offer better choices per square mile (I've come to hate driving in LA, spoiled by Pasadena's wide tree-lined streets), but since you'd be coming from out of town you'd have to drive through LA anyway so it's a wash (unless you were using the Burbank airport, which is by far the better experience over LAX; ask any local <g>).

By all means, please do let me know next time you're in the area. And if you find yourself passing through San Diego I make it down there from time to time and meeting you there would be another great excuse to jump on the train.

I left a note in the drag-and-drop thread; I've done relatively little work with RevBrowser has thus, so for that I'll have to leave you in Bernd's very capable hands.

Your project seems quite exciting. I dropped by the Openworld site - really great stuff, just as I remember from the good ol' days.

I'm in Northern Virginia, about 6 miles outside of D.C. There aren't any user groups in the area but I've been considering putting one together, I just haven't followed through with it yet. I don't know any other LiveCode developers in the area but if we can get a group together that is interested in meeting up then we may be able to get RunRev to send out an email to customers in the area seeing if there is any additional interest.

I'm in southern Virginia. It would be nice to meet other LiveCode users...

I am in Maryland, Crofton/Bowie area. I am new and just evaluating LiveCode to use to write Apps. Even though it is English-based there is a decent learning curve

I am just not sure how it will be to use to deliver a complete/polished application and as far as not running slow with the finished program. Usually when a language runs on so many platforms, there are trade-offs in speed and performance.

Anyway, interested in meeting up after I get more up to speed with the coding.
Thanks

I've created a "LiveCode Washington DC User Group" group on LinkedIn. I would like to organize a meeting during February if there is enough interest. Join the group and let me know if you are available for a get together.
