Heh, we have quite a bit in common, punch cards anyone? Sneaker net? Transfer rates were great back then, but oh MY the latency... :D
Well I used to have bootstrap the first computer I used and then load up the interpreter and then load in my program.
That was using paper tape. How we celebrated when we got our high speed paper tape punch.
And yet I now still complain if it takes more than 15 seconds for an app to load.
How relative it all is.

I remember waiting for the operator to tell me he had time available to come test out the instruction set. Relative indeed. No, I wasn't coding at that time, I was the network interface

And yah, hiccups of a few seconds can be really annoying to me now, when I remember say, starting up my first IBM XT, walking away, starting supper, coming back and it still hadn't finished loading.

We bashed away with a horrible sort of degenerate typewriter to punch holes in Hollerith cards, which were the stacked in
a box and posted off to Imperial College in London, and about 10 days later the cards came back with a print out.

It was very like this, except there was no "bed" for the card.

You kids with your ones and zeros...

When I was young we only had zeros.
And not all of them worked.

The ones that worked, were they ones with ones? If they were ones without ones then I am surprised any worked.

I am not sure I like, overmuch, that some contributors on this forum are as silly as I am. I find it disconcerting. It would be more palatable to me were we not all so old.
