Re: BBC article about HyperCard
Thanks for this Andy. I am often at a loss regarding the journalistic diligence used when some articles are produced. If you're going to write about the subject and lament its lack of successor, that suggests the writer has a certain familiarity with the subject. Anything but the most basic familiarity should include the knowledge of its successor(s).
Re: BBC article about HyperCard
Funny that he mentioned several other "web page" hosting alternatives, and Scratch.
Except for Scratch, the others aren't even similar to HyperCard.

It's PR and Marketing. What wouldn't you say? Occasionally said individuals converse with news agencies, especially if they've placed an ad with said agency at any time in the last 20 years, because the news agency will be spamming the company regularly.

Re: BBC article about HyperCard
Livecode should have an intern who sits, poised, like a wolf ready to strike, at everyIt's PR and Marketing
goofy remark about how "effing awful" it is that Hypercard died (was killed?) and has
no descendants . . .
. . . but, as should be clear by now, LiveCode appears to think everyone is going to
beat a path to their door, slobbering in anticipation, with LiveCode ONLY geting on
with developing the product.
I, for the first time in 15 years, am paying a PR and Marketing agency to plug my schoolIt's PR and Marketing
because, while I may be a reasonably competent EFL and programming teacher, I don't know
anything about PR and Marketing; rather like some other people I can think of.
Re: BBC article about HyperCard
I don't think I agree with LC's marketing staff and skill or lack thereof (but their behavior in this case is odd). I had a couple of conversations with Kevin a couple of years ago about this topic, and I was surprised at how sophisticated they seemed to be with their approach.
They still should have a twitter troll going Wendy's on everyone.

They have an entire army of such people, not just random interns playing Internet troll, but actual developers who build apps with it.richmond62 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2019 3:17 pmLivecode should have an intern who sits, poised, like a wolf ready to strike, at everyIt's PR and Marketing

Do you not see the comments there?
Organic grass roots comments like the ones we see following such articles are far more powerful than any message conveyed by having company shills trolling blogs.
People are far less persuaded by company pitches than by real-world users with first-hand experience.

I agree. It was a 2012 google search for "Why did hypercard die?" that lead me to LiveCode via the comment section of this article:FourthWorld wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2019 6:05 pmOrganic grass roots comments like the ones we see following such articles are far more powerful than any message conveyed by having company shills trolling blogs

I can't be alone. I imagine at least a few people who read the BBC article also read the comments ( I guess tweets in this case) and will be finding their way here. Now that there is an open source community version of LC available to anyone around, I'd like to think that there are hoards of people who miss HyperCard and would be beating down our doors if they only knew we were here. User comments about LC on an article about HyperCard is what lead me to LC, so that seems like a viable organic outreach mechanism. Up until I read the article linked above, I was pretty sure that this style of programming had gone the way of the dinosaur. Perhaps, we as users of this great tool could set some news alerts for articles about HyperCard and reach out in the comment section whenever possible.

Re: BBC article about HyperCard
I read that Loper article a few times, but had lost track of it myself. Thanks for bringing it up again ClipArtGuy!
One of the things I found most interesting in it wasn't actually about HyperCard, though, but about an IDE that I think in many ways was more powerful, and possibly even easier to use that was never released, SK8.
At one point, Apple open-sourced it, but I haven't had any luck finding the source code to it which was provided on an ftp server (Apple apparently removed it at some point after 2002).
I wonder if any one here has ever used it (or might even have the source code??) I know they had planned to make it cross platform as well at one point.
Looks like a big loss that almost no one got to see it

Re: BBC article about HyperCard
Yah, there was a similar link at the macintosh garden (I downloaded it for sheep shaver), but it isn't the actual source (I don't think, haven't had time to investigate thoroughly yet).
